I don't eat too many packaged foods but I feel a sort of benign wonder towards the trend of creating flavor simulacra experiences on top of existing items, the way a person in the 50s probably felt watching an educational film about Advances in Plastics

"that truffle oil you're eating? the truffle taste is a synthetic recreation of the molecule from the mushroom. we didn't actually do anything with the mushrooms to make this stuff. what do you mean you don't know how to feel about that?"

There is nothing in the world that brings me the joy of a limited edition stunt flavor designed to create grocery store turns for better shelf placement. I buy them all.

They will never get me! I am a salt guy and I will always be a salt guy. Maybe sour cream and onion if I'm feeling crazy. Unless I'm in Canada, then I gotta get my all-dressed.

My friends and I are big into this. I’m a sucker for food flavored like other food. I miss my old job where everyone was keen to grab the new weird flavor of chip or candy or whatever and bring it in to share. Now I eat on my own and share experiences in discord with online friends.

every time a chip company does this i reflexively gotta try it. last summer pringles made one that was flavored like drinking a macrobrew pils and eating a sausage. whipped that into the grocery cart so fast it made a sonic boom in the air

I bet that's what they're doing at the place where i got those garlic bread mac minis bsky.app/profile/chea...

Remembering the board member at the guide dog school who was a big deal at some kind of General Mills skunkworks food lab and who was always bringing us black budget treats and, once, a small fleet of late model Mac Minis that never stopped smelling like garlic bread

No one is talking about how the Twin Cities nonprofit industrial complex was powered by spooks from General Mills bsky.app/profile/chea...

Every time I eat blueberry yogurt I think of my boss at the science museum who started her career in process engineering and how they had a near life threatening blueberry sauce disaster at her yogurt factory due to improperly specced hoses
