I don't love it either, but I'm not sure how you tell a man that he should let his only surviving son rot in prison to respect norms, institutions, and the rule of law, when the country you devoted your life to serving just pretty comprehensively voted they don't give a shit about any of that.

It's not about what the country voted for: it's what each person stands for. If Hunter was convicted according to due process then he should serve his time, the same as anyone else. All Biden has shown here is his own corruption and openness to abuse of power. And enabled Trump's future abuses.

You have to assume due process. If you don't, then you accept Trump's corruption as the normal, natural and proper state of things. I have no illusions about Trump but how do Democrats hold him accountable if they adopt his methods? And where does that leave America either way?

Besides, in accepting the pardon, Hunter Biden by definition accepts the guilt of his conviction, even leaving aside the ongoing tax investigations (which have continued all through his father's term as president so presumably aren't entirely politically motivated).

Why is it "presumably" not entirely politically motivated? Weiss was appointed in 2018 as a politically motivated investigation. Biden didn't immediately fire the guy - to be seen to be proper. Would there really have been a 6 year investigation if a Biden wasn't involved?
