I’m really split on this disc fiasco. On one hand, game discs haven’t really contained the actual games in a while iirc. On the other, I don’t know the conditions of the code that will be provided, but I assume it’s gonna be a one time use, which brings up the argument of actual game ownership.

what was your opinion, or even valve's at the time, on the original xbox version of half life 2/orange box given it ran rather poorly

First off, I think we should own what we buy. We need a better system in place for digital games and letting players own them forever. But I also hate buying physical media. I don't want to waste plastic and ship games across the globe.

I understand, but a company as big as Rockstar offering essentially a fake physical edition for just if not more money is, imo, insulting to their fans and consumers. Also putting actual in-game content behind a paywall is really really shitty. It's like they're begging people to pirate it.

From what I've seen it's moreso about the fact that the "Ultimate Edition" has no memorabilia to go with it (usually the bare minimum of a map) and no resale/sharing value for a console-first title than the medium itself

I only use physical discs for movies….and that’s only because the difference between digital and physical are vast.
