Fuck the law. Some of the worst atrocities in history have happened fully within the bounds of the law. Some laws explicitly and effectively prescribe suffering and abuse en masse. Laws do not dictate what is correct. Legalism is an awful system of ethics to live by.

I see AI boosters in the games industry have realized “it’s so over for you you’ll be left behind” isn’t working so now they’re trying “AI disclosure requirements are harassment”

Last I'll post about this, but Elon Musk disagrees with me. This means I am onto something, and I feel more valid in my opinion than ever.

The actual math in this paper is over the heads of non-mathematicians but the core argument is pretty easy to follow: AI theorem-prover formalizations can't actually be trusted to faithfully be the same argument as the natural-language paper they come attached to arxiv.org/abs/2610.081...

Like imagine if everyone goes "well okay we don't really understand why but the code compiles so I guess the Riemann hypothesis is true" and it turns out that's not even valid either.

conventional wisdom for the entire time i've been programming has always been "less code is better". the idea that we must write more code faster is ridiculous. the problem has never been rate of output

Honestly I think like 50% of the Teams 101 course is just me saying this in 30 different ways with 15 different methods of making sure everybody on your team understands that decisions are made to be executed on, not argued about further, that's the whole-ass point of it being a decision.

no game dev skill is more important than making up your fuckin mind

not so tough, really. Just puts the game in the same pile as any of the million other clones that have no substance.

None of them can/will be solved with AI

Sjoerd De Jong on why the new Immens game engine is needed: "We're at the point where the industry is facing a number of different challenges, and just continuing to do things as we've done before is not really it." https://bit.ly/4xRY14m

Evidence is already accruing that spending time on Twitter pulls ppl to the right, bc the algorithm feeds you horrible stuff. And again: academics are likely more vulnerable, bc they convince themselves they are less.

Gonna keep telling this story. I watched an hour long "How To Write An AI Novel" how to video out of curiosity and I shit you not, 60% of the video was about how to trick Claude into writing something that didn't look like it was AI. If genAI is a tool, it's core audience uses it mostly for fraud.

Devs, pay attention to who is actually, practically offering support to our laid off colleagues. It’s not the companies, it’s not the ESA, it’s the union, it’s us.

trying to scream this from the top of rooftops

Megan Fox@glassbottommeg.bsky.social

Oh hey, yep, basically same conclusions we came to. Like even if you're willing to write off the ethical stuff, there's a bunch of super boring business reasons to not go anywhere near it. Including "it appears to erode your abilities even if you're aware of that risk going in." That's uh. Um. No.

not me being a sobby mess rn remembering what @remedygames.com have been up to and how that's the kinda stuff i wanna do and ppl will always love things like that as the industry splits into two futures, one of the artistic medium it is and the other of the pipedream that execs have been chasing

This is not to diminish any of the very real problems plaguing our industry right now. The best way to ensure we're more in the former than the latter is to unionize. uvw-cwa.org

Thinking that Valve is not a greedy company is very naive. All it would take is Valve selling to a vc fund to fuck everyone. And gamers being so in love with valve right now is the problem. Remember on ps4 Gen? Everyone loved Sony... They are ALL CORPOS

"If it seems like a big risk to unionize, it is worth remembering that plenty of non-union members lose their jobs unfairly every year, the difference is that it happens with no scrutiny. And if you think organizing will not make a difference, it already has."
