Maybe academics don’t want students using plagiarism machines, and instead want them to produce work from their own minds.

Former educator here (from long ago). AI is death Death of truth Death of thought Death of creativity Death of trust Death of the environment And sometimes, literal human death I make every effort to avoid AI, and would work doubly hard to do so if I still taught.

The most valuable conversations around AI begin with asking what your incentive is to promote an oligarch scam for undermining education and manipulating control whose data centers are imperiling the planet's climate. Students want to learn, not be forced to rely on fascist tools.

The only way an "AI" can deliver an insight is if they stole it from someone else who actually had the insight. (or I guess if a random word soup they create happens to have insight while hallucinating)

I want them to learn how to kick AI to the curb. That’s what I want. Because I care about them and I care about higher ed and because I care about democracy. Get with the program.

This week in the midst of the Canvas s#itstorm, you are suggesting we embrace another for-profit, data-mining technology that is not accountable to faculty or students and has next-to-no opt options? Inquiring minds want to know.

I think the conversation starts with plagiarism, environmental disasters, eugenics, exploitation, slop, and how AI is antithetical to everything an academic should stand for.

Fuck AI, fuck "AI 'experts'", and fuck you for platforming them. No one working in AI has a viable pedagogical theory, because they only care about spreading and embedding AI in everything so they can make more money. AI is a "tool" whose only purpose is to weaken and destroy.
