Skype was good, until Microsoft took it over and started to do everything to fuck it up. If they weren't greedy hyenas, they could at least release the code of the original Skype for all platforms, without the Microsoft shit in it.

Today I saw there's an update to Office which I haven't even loaded so going to assume that it is untangling skype now in preparation for it going away. Meta owns whatapp which I stopped using ages ago for reasons.Very few apps out there worth using anymore.

My union tried Skype at first during the lockdowns. It just didn't work as well for group meetings. And instead of expanding Skype's features, Microsoft built Teams, which is still garbage in comparison to Zoom or Google Meet. But MS got several corps to exclusively use Teams somehow.

Skype was clunky ... there are so many better more streamlined ways of communicating now - Instagram for example ... WhatsApp ... FaceTime ... they most likely stayed with their old technology rather than keep up with the newer ideas

People still use Skype? Gurl i thought you'd been relegated to the world of companies that make t-shirts for people in documentaries about developing nations last year.

It's hard to believe Skype is saying goodbye after being the go-to for so many years. So many memories of awkward calls and dropped connections! Wonder what will take its place in the next decade—zoom calls in VR, maybe?

I used Skype a lot early on. It didn't improve or keep up with the times, even before Microsoft's purchase. I'm actually surprised MSFT let it run this long. I now use FaceTime with local family and WhatsApp with family abroad. The Meta ownership of WhatsApp hasn't been an issue so far.
