A letter signed by more than 50 former staffers of Rep. Eric Swalwell described recent allegations of sexual assault and misconduct against him as “serious” and “credible,” while demanding he resign from Congress and drop his bid for California governor. https://cnn.it/47Vxjx2

If your reply is some version of “it’s better to be complicit with abuse than inconvenience yourself” just block me. So I don’t have to block you.

Another question that should be asked is “Why?”. In a well-established era of #MeToo, I can fathom a reason for 50 people to not feel empowered to speak out before. If any of the allegations are accurate, they are complicit in their own way. This feels very odd.

The man can defend himself in court on his own time. But he can’t do it on ours. It’s vital FOR THIS COUNTRY that California get the gubernatorial election right. Eric Swallwell must suspend his candidacy and reign from office before the end of this week. Before the middle. By EOD tomorrow.

GOP also wants him to resign, because his House seat would be vacant for the rest of the year. If he’d blown up a few weeks earlier, a special would have been scheduled, to occur between the primary and the general. But since filing has closed, the seat must be vacant until after the general.

Therein lies the difference that we must insist on. The GOP will defend its sex pests in order to maintain a fragile majority. We need to jettison ours in order to maintain basic integrity and respect for the victims regardless of the political implications.

Sen Fetterman used his truck to chase an innocent black jogger and pointed a 20 gauge shotgun at the man's chest once he cornered the jogger. That's a felony 🚨 Why? He thought he heard someone fire an assault rifle and automatically assumed that it was the black jogger. Sen Fetterman must resign!

If the allegations are true, he needs to find another career! This is why integrity matters! The best leaders in history sacrifice themselves for something bigger than themselves. Natural leaders don’t sacrifice others to be leaders. The above statement is not political! It should be nonpartisan!

With all these heartbreaking stories, why is it after the fact, people who probably knew he was dangerous come out of the woodwork to say it was credible? Why don't they stop it when they suspected? Disgusts me.

Maybe candidates for high office should have to answer questions under penalty of perjury. It would make for very interesting press conferences.

He should do it when Trump resigns. GOP never demand for this but Democrats race to do it and run fighting people out of office. Let them all go to trial- why have these women been silent for so long? We have a judicial system for this. Use it

Hey @cnn.com thank you for reporting on and bringing awareness to Swalwell’s action! But you could do more to ensure SA perpetrators are held to account, which will deter other (wannabe) perpetrators and give the victims confidence that the system will listen to them. 1/n

Firstly, how about doing an investigation and reporting on assaults the elected officials on the conservative side are committing. There are many investigations small media outlets and newspapers do. You could significantly elevate awareness by joining them. 2/n

Secondly, please write a detailed analysis of how conservatives vs liberals respond in diametrically opposite ways when one of their own is found out. Conservatives close ranks on the person while liberals hold them accountable. Of course there are exceptions on both sides, but there’s a norm. 3/n

This hits hard. I liked Clinton. I liked Spitzer. I was all in for John Edwards in 2024. FWIW, I really liked Anthony Weiner too. They all said the right things that I agreed with so much of. Then the truth comes out. FUCK all of them. Fuck them for wasting our time and getting our hopes up.

I was all in for Clinton and John Edwards too. I'm still reeling from Bill Cosby too. I admired him so much and had memorized many of his comedy routines. I thought he was so good because his comedy was clean. I.had.no.idea. This one hurts too. I wanted to believe Swallwell was a good guy.

Yep. Sucks. But at least, the very least, we realized how bad they are and moved on. I still get mad at myself about how disillusioned I was and prob will be again, ugh. The MAGA weirdos, however, dig in and make excuses. Crazy shit.

How come all these people get organized when he is running for office and come out, I just want to know who is behind it because it was really well done. Too bad they can't do it with trump. This smearcampaign regardless if it is true or not is a well planned job.

50?!?! FIFTY?!?! Time to go, champ. I’ll never know what it’s like to have that much power, but.. for the love of god, WHY CANT WE JUST KEEP OUR HANDS TO OURSELVES?!?!? Why is common professionalism so difficult? He had to know this would come out. He had to..

This kind of BS used to have an immediate effect and the person would make an announcement they were resigning to spend more time with their family. Now they dig in and make it worse. This reflects badly on him. He needs to end his campaign. And we are going to need a good replacement asap.
