1/ 🧵 Froggie vs. ICE: The asymmetrical symbol of a failing authoritarian state. You’ve seen the video. An inflatable frog at a Portland protest. Unarmed. Unbothered. Unapologetically absurd. And ICE panics. They fire pepper spray up a frog caricature's ass. The frog wins.

Jon grasped the assignment. Farage's byelection move is a stunt worthy of mockery only. No other candidate should treat this byelection seriously. This is a war where asymmetrical election warfare will rule, and can beat establishment fascist party. Binface is the new froggie.

1/ 🧵 Why mockery works against fascism: A primer on asymmetrical power, satire, and the Texas National Guard in Chicago Authoritarians fetishize aesthetics... uniforms, fitness, control, "order," and spectacle. Their power is performative, designed to awe, to intimidate, to project superiority.

Sorry, don’t get it: if his only opponent is a joke character, wouldn’t Farage get reelected? If so, why is it characterized as “spectacularly backfired”? Because it shows up Farage as an unimportant candidate?

The whole thing was an attempt to deflect from an oncoming corruption investigation and possible suspension by having a “Me vs The Establishment” election where he would get to play the populist insurgent outsider, but no other party chose to stand, so now he has to spend the summer debating a bin.

Unfortunately Musk is backing Rupert Lowe so Vance might too but I live in hope - the old Pope didn't do too well after that photo with Vance!

I ❤️ the reward left for those who read to the last line: _____ Asked what his appeal is going to be to the people of Clacton, the comedian replied, “I’m not Nigel Farage.”

You really need to keep track of this as im in the uk and count binface is trending across social media so much that reform are recalling activists from the Manchester mayor upcoming election to bolster farage in Clacton. Binfaces odd dropped from 5000/1 to 4/1 overnight .
