If you’re going to do this, just don’t open any files you didn’t type yourself. There are a lot of really gnarly Office XP vulnerabilities that will never get patched you’re exposing yourself to.

Is this actually a thing to be concerned about? Because I've been running the same copy of Office 2007 Student Edition on different computers for nearly 20 years now.

it really is. That is an extremely real risk to your system even if you think you hardly use the software. Much better to run the Libre suite or something else free and open source that is actively receiving security updates.
