The weird freakness of the GOP has been simmering for a while, since Trump it's engulfed the entire party while traditional media, aided by social media platforms, has elevated the weird freaks, explained how they're not freaks, and told us lefties that actually the country loves freaks.

Quarterly thinking produces quarterly results Corporate DEI programs were a MASSIVE gift to money hungry corporations that not only bought PR but also provided so much stability against public whiplash by just having SOME non-white dudes in the room to gut check things, at a minimum.

Schooley@schooley.bsky.social

That this is in THE WASHINGTON POST is almost too much irony to bear.

correct states further down the path of autocracy than us have had those autocracies overthrown by sufficiently large voting numbers recently we can do it here too

Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

The US is not about to have a free and fair election. The state has put its thumb on the scale to favor the ruling party in multiple ways. It's a mostly free, somewhat unfair election. But still one where the ruling party can be overwhelmed by numbers. Hence the term "competitive authoritarianism."

ITS NOT THAT HARD, Y'ALL. HONESTLY IT JUST ISN'T

BeshearStan@beshearstan.bsky.social

Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

This is the foundation of the "parents rights" movement, which is broadly about a parent's right to use and abuse their children, restructuring institutions that would otherwise expose children to other schools of thought to keep them under the parent's control

Adam Gurri@adamgurri.liberalcurrents.com

We’ve been thinking along the exact same lines so @sjshancoxli.liberalcurrents.com wrote about it as well www.liberalcurrents.com/editors-note...

Moms for Liberty, antivax, homeschooling, various religious institutions, trans panic They're all rooted in the same premise that my kid is my property and my role as a parent is to change the world so that my control over their body and mind can be maintained

This is fucking rad And Stephen Miller is absolutely the top of my "needs to be prosecuted immediately" power rankings Whine more, you Nazi dork

emptywheel@emptywheel.bsky.social

Apparently, some Houston voters are putting their I Voted stickers on the Lorenzo Salgado Araujo memorial. Stephen Miller is ALREADY trying to scapegoat others for losing whatever races they lose in Texas and elsewhere. This is a vivid testament that for some voters, his murder squad is the reason.

Shameful that it's where we are but it's also the absolute truth about where we are

Dante Atkins@danteatkins.bsky.social

1) I fucking hate Turek's bigoted bullshit, and so should you 2) a 51-49 Senate with Turek in it is a way better outcome than a 50-50 Senate where Republicans have committee leaderships and bring their agenda to the floor, not just on trans issues but every single other one. Both things are true.

The RNC handed out "Mass Deportation Now" signs and the media patently refused to explain a single time what that meant. No media member asked Trump to explain how a tariff works. Dropped out of 2 final debates? Total hall pass. Special boy and his special team get no pressure. Zero. None.

Yes this is morally wrong, but don't worry, it's also stupid, unnecessary, and terrible politics

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

NB: a lot of the Cruz precincts in Dallas are ultra wealthy GOP types vs more working class R voters Might explain why they're higher % (as well as Dallas expanding EV locations)

Is there a name for the type of liberalism that is borne not out of a respect for human dignity and rights and a desire to empower people but rather out of fear and disgust at the worst of humanity and the desire to constrain it with institutional bonds?

"We are the only legitimate victims. All other victims are abusers in disguise, and therefore our abuses are righteous and justified." The core tenet of Trumpism and post modern reactionary conservatism on full display

Headquarters@headquartersnews.bsky.social

Q: Why did you make no mention of the sexual allegations of sexual abuse Amy Acton made about her stepfather who stayed married to her mother? Trump: The mother said she was a dirty liar. I don't know why you are not allowed to say that. That one ad should really win. I say that she's fair game

I think the thing that's hard for everyone who's very plugged in or online to understand is that a massive swath of voters simply have no idea was Trump was or is about during the last 3 presidential cycles. And, to be clear, the reason is not the GOP. The media has repeatedly hidden the real GOP.

There IS are large segment of the voter base that genuinely wants freaks in charge. There's another segment that is OK with it as long as other things are met (they are currently not being met) Then there's people that had no idea how big of freaks the people they voted for are.

And now the GOP, who has purged non-freaks from the party, is left with the weirdest freaks imaginable running for every office in the country and there's very little cover, even from MORE consolidated media control. We'll see what happens next

The GOP, all the while, has just been doubling down on weird freakness while also doing all sorts of horrible shit that makes people pay attention. ICE shootings, tariffs, the Iran war, Trump's corruption. Now voters who may have been able to avoid seeing these freaks as freaks are rethinking

Y'all for fucks sake this is so fucking bad

Texans who want a different world on 11/4 cannot rely entirely on GOP folks sitting out this one, however unpopular Paxton is. GOP voters are gonna be in that booth, asking themselves if they can disavow their ENTIRE POLITICAL IDENTITY, and probably answer "no, I will vote for this asshole."

One thing I learned well as a professional libertarian is that the facts about what actually makes markets efficient is very much secondary to protecting the fortunes of actually-existing capitalism’s winners from any form of redistribution. Opposition to redistribution always comes first.
