Is he egotistical or is he focused on protecting his personal wealth? The idea of public servant types doesn’t apply to many senators and representatives these days. They don’t identify with the average citizen in the least.

Schumer said that it was all a trap to have Dems take the blame for shutting down the gov. Then Orange and Musk would keep it shut, and only bring back pieces, commanded by Musk's fratboys. Well... Dems are taking the blame anyway, any gov is getting dilapidated anyway. What is the difference.

That was essentially the plot alluded by Schumer. The main goal from the Orange is to shut everything down, and then keep what he wants, and populated by his minions. Democrats woudd fast track that, spinned as "Dems closed the gov., we are reopening it with our experienced and smart 18y olds."

I watched Schumer's interview at MSNBC, and the anchors there said they heard the same from "insiders" at DC. It would be a way to quickly shut down everything, blame Dems, then have Musk's fratboys and general sycophants populate the remaining pieces.

Schumer was wrong to cave on the vote to pass the CR without getting any kind of concessions. What he should have done is hold every Dem Senators' feet to the fire and told them to vote NO if the Republicans would not deal.

Honestly I’ve stopped watching MSM but it looks to me like Pelosi was the tough leader that carried Schumer along for the ride in the past. Who is the Democrat version of McConnell who can stand up and do the right thing now? Is it Bernie? Is Schumer compromised as he tries to protect Israel?

I don’t think we have our own “Grim Reaper”. But at this point I’ll take anyone who is willing to fight and use every tool the minority has to grind GOP bills and appointments to a screeching halt. Schumer may be compromised, but it’s likely just ego and greed. Pelosi fought hard and had a spine.

Schumer did the right thing, the wrong way. Allowing a shutdown would have been disastrous, but Psaki makes good points regarding the lack of strategy and execution going into that fight.

He put Gillibrand in charge of DSCC. She helped him whip the votes for cloture. So she’s doing that fundraising and will decide how those funds will be spent on 2026 campaigns. We need real chance for flipping Senate AND having Dem senators who can fight for us. W/her in charge? Color me skeptical.

Not so. Wrong fight. The CR is very "status quo." Shutting down the government over it wouldn't stop it. The GOP pulled temper tantrums like that. Twice. And they were OBLITERATED in the next election. The *REAL* fight is the upcoming budget. That's worth shutting down over.

And I say that because shutting down "status quo" funding just buy you anger, and makes you seem petulant, and like it's just "us against them, reflexively." It will be FAR easier to defend shutting down the government to avoid cuts to social security. And a LOT of people will support that.
