You've mirrored my last 6 months or so broadly avoiding the internet social spaces and actually wrote down the words that have been rolling around in my head! I just haven't had the desire to "go back" to the way I used to be online because it feels so much more empty and forced.

But I've made big pushes to be more "offline" by actually going to local hang out spots and hand-writing letters (which I'm loving, does anyone want me to write you a letter?).

I just can't see a future where the internet is anywhere near as enjoyable as a place to interact with real people, even in local online spaces, because there are so many bots and agitators that present false faces behind the shield of relative anonymity.

But I see this as a massive privilege - I do not need social internet like many small business owner friends, and there are many marginalized communities that rely on internet spaces for organizing (which is why I still hold on to some access).

and the first thing out of your mouth is "I'm okay, nothing is wrong, just thought I'd give you a ring", right?

I really miss the old days of random fun posts and people finding each other. That’s how I found you Dan!
