The West are colonizers and always have been and always will be until the colonialist mindset is uprooted. Gaining independence isn’t enough, because colonialism is a disease that stays long after.

The Soviet Union Literally colonized Eastern Europe and Half the Middle East. The Maoist Chinese have been trying to colonize the whorl of Asia for 60 years now and before them The Japanese. The Communists in South America have been trying to Colonize each other to death since the 20s. Wake up.

I was thought the word civilization was an odd word to describe the societies we have built. There just seems to be a lack of civility, especially in a lot of the leaders we seem to have had. (As a planet and country) How can we be a civilization if we aren't civil? What we have is a ization.

Such a simplistic view of the world. Many of the slaves were offerings/business from the tribe chiefs of the colonized lands, no, it does not absolve anything but it shows that it was not just "people grabbing into boats".

If you invented the hot shower, the sandwich, underground sewers, movable type, and the queen-sized mattress, I'm giving you the civilization award. But that doesn't let you off the hook for exploiting people who just happen not to have invented the muzzle-loading long-gun.

When I was at school, many many years ago.,my teachers were still proud of the British empire. But when it's over, it created many problems. India,Pakistan,Bangladesh. South Africa,. We consoled ourselves by saying we always left a democracy. Knowing it had a snowball in hells chance of lasting.

Civilization is Latin for “learning your place” In that respect the west is the bringer of civilization. *this may or not be factual, but it’s true.

And you do not know history - European expansion was fueled entirely by predations by the Muslim / Arab world which had previously colonized portions of Europe and threatened as far as Vienna. That experience was burned into the European consciousness. Learn history -

No, I'd say the Romans were pretty effective Empire builders before Islam was a thing. And before them the Greeks, Macedonians, Egyptians... Wait, but then there were empires in Africa way before we ever got there, and in Asia too. It's as if greed for discovery and conquest is a human constant.

the re-conquista was an anti-colonial war. the expulsion of jews was due to religiously based antisemitism which was a core belief of the church. the expulsion of Muslims was a political act - kicking out the prior conquerors. the effects on the two populations were vastly different

Religion and politics have always been closely connected. Somehow the Jewish population was adapting better to the invading Islamic rulers. Which sometimes backfired, like in the Granada massacre. Also the intermediary role of Jewish slave traders was maybe convenient for both Christians and Muslims
