Capped for the billionaires Otherwise weโ€™re in the same boat. SS was never meant to be a benefit for the rich. Neither was MedicareThey can afford to fund their own futuresEven with a higher tax rate. Our labor, for our lifetime affords them their lifestyle their whole lives they can pay

Most people have NO IDEA there is a threshold above which taxes and not taken. I was one of them 30 years ago.

Social Security was designed as a program to guarantee individuals saved for their future. As it stands, due to huge amounts of SS Fraud allowed by Dems, SS benefits will be cut back by 2034 for ALL Americans, except members of congress that have exempted themselves from SS.

What can we do to make this happen, bernie? Its been obvioud for years that the rich do not pay their share and the exception you just described confirms that. People who earn over $250,000 should pay taxes at the same rate as those earn $75,000 per year.

I fully agree with Bernie on this. Scrap the cap! I also think that we should tax long term capital gains for FICA. That would make Social Security solvent forever.

The whole SS thing is constantly misrepresented. Those that make above the cap don't pay anything into SS. They also don't get payouts. To have inputs from the richest help SS then payouts would have to be capped while inputs are unlimited.

Keep it simple. No cap. The payout is taxed, however, and the tax rate for Social Security Income would need to be structured as to make an effective cap. They still receive payments based on what they pay in, but very high payments pay very high taxes.

Of course, as it is now, taxes on Social Security Income can only be used for the SS Program. Meaning, if the program took in more than they pay out, the taxes get reduced. Make it a fully self-funded program, with payroll taxes pre-loading it and taxes on (excessive) benefits to bring up the rear.
