Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

One thing I realized is that ALL strategies are Underpants Gnomes strategies. Human endeavors are always so complex as to demand a "collect underpants, ?, profit" leap of logic. I guess the trick is to make that "?" as small as possible. Just an observation.

This is right, but what is the point? It's kind of a classic social media thread, telling people they are wrong and it is very addictive. Here's me replying to it! But if you are trying to build a majority to solve the issue for the people you believe have a right to complain this way, do this:

Ned Resnikoff@resnikoff.bsky.social

I think the real finding from surveys like this is that a lot of self-pitying rich people don't know what "paycheck to paycheck" means. If you are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars annually on voluntary expenditures like prep school tuition, you don't count. finance.yahoo.com/economy/arti...

Step 4: Pass part of that agenda! Everyone in the coalition gets at least 60 percent, nobody gets 100 percent today. This is the hardest part, because nobody wants 60 especially if it looks like somebody else gets 75

When you see something like this, social media wants you to scream "stolen valor" but that's because controversy does numbers. It also breaks majorities. Something like this should tell you there's an opportunity for coalescing.

Step 2: PACKAGE POLICIES. The entire interwebs has forgotten that you can have a bill to address food costs that includes SNAP and market-based incentives and supplier-based policy. Give the most number of people a reason to care about your policy agenda.

Step 3: micro target the agenda pitch. Candidates in different communities have different needs, so lead with what it does for them specifically, while pointing out that we have a broad and diverse coalition behind us that will get what they need too. We help each other

Step 1: Recognize that "affordability" is a broad ranging issue. Tell stories about people living paycheck-to-paycheck, and connect them with "yes and" stories about how even people "doing everything right, saving for retirement and spending on kids edu" are feeling a real pinch

At a really fundamental level Leo XIV is just a person with sound, well-reasoned, moral stances on the world and how life should be lived who isn't afraid to say those things in public. That kind of person simply does not make sense to business leaders and politicians for whom speech is convenience.

Funniest part to me is Jack Smith using 110% of his lawyer brain. He avoids making the connection himself; he doesn't even say "Hawkeyes," he just says "Iowa." He knows it's better to let everyone figure it out on their own. He also knows from Klobuchar's grin that she'll dunk it for him.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

🤡 Schmitt beclowns himself 🤡 Schmitt concocted an elaborate conspiracy theory that Smith traveled to Atl for a Hawks game and to collude with Fani Willis, & flashed his "evidence" before accusing Smith of perjury. There's just one problem -- his facts were totally wrong. Here's the whole sequence:

We've wreaked generational damage on the US, killed millions worldwide, & crucially killed countless Palestinian civilians by electing Trump & all because Joe Biden revealed certain folks fantasy-version of middle east relations weren't real.

Perpetually amazed at how so many people can be deeply invested in defending someone they don't know from allegations from people who do know them and yet... Can't understand how someone like Trump can "fool" so many people who don't follow the news. It's all hard-wired people!

hugging face is the most terrifying indicator of where the ai race is, in the sense that the industry is facing completely solvable collective action problems while guided by entrenched, unoustable leaders with the foresight and moral fortitude of above-average pigeons

On Twitter we used to engage in this turmoil for days over something posted on Breitbart, but we are lacking them. We have to make new enemies to keep the Hate to make the no-cost access model work for the platform and to make us feel like we are part of something personally.

I really cant emphazise enought how much Star Wars Zero Company has grabbed me. Again, im totally biased but I think the game is really special. It has gotten me excited about star wars for the first time in 15 years. Go pick it up, dont wait for a sale.

Please, for the love of God, if Dems win the House elect a speaker who delivers legislation the majority regularly votes for and helps widen the majority in the next general election. That's it. That's the Speaker job.

Joe Walsh@walshfreedom.bsky.social

If Dems take back the House, Hakeem Jeffries must not become Speaker. The Dem Party, the entire country, needs a Speaker who will meet this moment. By meeting with Jared Kushner, Jeffries proved he cannot meet this moment. Give this a read.👇 socialcontractwithjoewalsh.substack.com/p/hakeem-jef...

This makes a lot of sense when you remember S1 and 2 included nonbinary characters, otherness defended in court, the ethics of keeping a loved one alive to try to heal them and so on. And S3 was released in 2025. Wonder what happened then and if the owners of Paramount cared?

So my only complaint about the Strange New Worlds puppet episode was you could feel corporate attorneys hovering over set hissing "don't say muppet, that's Disney IP" when the episode was obviously intended to be "muppet" (and, of course, were muppets)

You guys realize you've already killed Strange New Worlds right? You did it, they tore up and trashed the set. You don't have to complain about it anymore, it's dead. Star Trek can live as an ideal type in your brain and you don't have to worry about a new audience causing them to make bad

He’s also claiming that it was ‘the first adjournment vote in decades’. Not only is that not true, but…

… Baked Mike Lee could have forced a vote by simply objecting on any UC to adjourn, and BML+19 could have forced a recorded vote. So his bragging "I secured an agreement to vote on adjournment" is like saying, "I secured an agreement with Costco to get a hot dog combo for $1.50." 9/

I'll be disappointed if Stevens wins, but mostly what you should take away from tonight is that the coalition really is divided between factions with lots of genuine support, we can't wish the other side away, and we're all going to have to learn to live with each other if we want to win.

My observation, especially in the last year, is that the real insidious thing isn’t even the rise of outrageously obvious antisemitism. It’s the complete refusal by many on the left to call it out or do anything about it. After over a decade of calling out every kind of niche reactionaryism.

Once again I'll reiterate that the way AIPAC has been transformed into this creeping villain behind every unwanted election result is feeding a resurgence of antisemitism, and that goes triple if the winner is Jewish and was opposed by AIPAC. Please please think about your words here!

There is a lot to say about the Nolan Odyssey movie. But one point that I think has not been emphasized enough is: this is a film about living in LA, as Nolan, my erstwhile British compatriot and age mate, has done for years. I gather it’s a strange place.
