Are they "confused" or are they neo-puritans who can't handle an overtly queer story that's been around since 1989

the thing I really like about the new adaptation is that it displays The Major And Her Disaster Polycule in a pretty honest way that queer people can relate to, and you really don’t see that a lot You see a meta and go “yeah okay I know like three people like her on discord”

Aren't fans usually disappointed when an adaptation *isn't* panel for panel accurate? This is literally the realest deal this series has ever had, it feels like it's mostly exact line and panel reproductions. I had to check that the bladerunner reference in Togusa's house was a Science Saru original

i think we've left the era of the knowledgeable pedants being the screechiest nerds and now it's all chuds who don't even know anything about the media they claim they're defending for reactionary street cred (well, social media feed cred anyway) witchsky.app/profile/spen...

More people need to read this. There is no such thing as a "historically accurate Odyssey," because the 'Odyssey' is not set in a real historical time. It is set in the mythic Age of Heroes, not the real-life Bronze Age. #Odyssey #Homer #classics kiwihellenist.blogspot.com/2026/07/odys...

I've seen this take and I will have to wait and see cause I haven't watched the movie yet, a lot of criticism does come across as pure opportunism without any appreciation for iron age theatre tho, true I am tempted to challenge the rejection of "historical accuracy", but I don't want to ramble

i'm still reading the linked article, it's a pretty detailed breakdown of the sorts of social tropes and assumptions in specific parts of the odyssey that only work if your starting assumptions are ~8th century BCE rather than bronze age & that it's basically equivalent to game of thrones

Im still waiting for the weebs to freak the fuck out becsuse the cannon of GitS basically confirms gender dysphoria is a thing. Batou gets physically ill when his cyberbrain gets flooded with the Majors nerves system feedback. I would have to find the dialog that supports it.

This seem to be why when the Major later dates a male character, its seemingly only IRL and with bodies. Both probably because of the geneder dysphoria reasons and just how the Major seems to enjoy sex in its differing forms. To the point where neighbors may be complaining about noise. Regularly.

These cbr.com ass headlines probably do a lot more to make this a “controversy” than the actual number of jackasses angry about it who exist, and that sucks because it means an opinion that would normally get to fade to white noise sticks around way longer than it should

Hottest take: Standalone Complex was way more perverted, and in a skeevy way, partly because it pretends not to be leering at a very dehumanized Kusanagi. No, what bothers creeps about the new show isn't the "horniness," it's a woman with agency and the existence of female orgasms.

The OG Ghost in the Shell manga isn't "raunchy," it's an action sci-fi series made for adults that treats sex as a normal thing adults do. It has, at most, 1-2 sex scenes over the entire series but because they're queer and about a woman just having a Normal Time of her own volition, it's a Problem

thinking for no reason about how i couldn't get through reading Dragon Ball/Z because it was so thick with Sexual Harassment Humor at every turn but we all gotta freak out over one consensual lesbian threesome (this is not to say that DB is wholly terrible, i just like. personally couldn't deal)

The fact that they virtually never talk about things like the persistent sexual harassment (often targeted at MINORS) in "classic" shonen that's aimed at children shows exactly where these fucks stand.
