The one big L for the new Ghost in the Shell anime is Science Saru cowardly changing the names of real life countries with fictional ones. "Ghoranti" isn't committing false flag terrorism, it's Israel!

While I like The GITS, the fact that Israel manipulating and killing people to get a better trade deal with Japan is so relevant to what Japan is struggling with right now with trying to expand weapon sales and its involvement in the war against Iran makes their censorship here extra cowardly.

There's a little of that in GitS (more in Appleseed), but even when there are new names it's really clear what real-life places we're talking about, like "Imperial Americana."

The MAG union is most likely a substitute for the USSR, though it may be that weird "Ameri-Soviet" rump state (contextually idt so but there have been some weird translations). Seems to me Volgarena/MAG union = Russia/Soviet Union, based on context. Refs to the American Empire are preserved

Interesting oversight: they *didn't* alter references to Balochistan and Khorasan, despite the fact that they *are* real places, if not countries. But given Baloch separatism you'd think that would be more sensitive, not less. I wonder if the writers just didn't notice.

If you're worried about a Shirow Masamune story painting America and Israel in a bad light, I've got bad news about every other Shirow Masamune story...
