Someone's going to lose a job or two over this insane last-minute switch in the marketing push on this film. I want to know who in the fuck thought "The Rise of Robin Hood" was the way to go two weeks before release.

“Spider-Man takes on the 1%” was already a pretty good pitch even if it was unlikely to make superhero numbers. But Robin Hood movies have a ceiling too, so I’m not sure this gets them anything and may actually lose them credibility in exchange for slight name recognition.

The only Robin Hood movie I had any interest in seeing was the sequel to Kingdom of Heaven Monaghan talks about on the commentary track. Fucking insane Ridley went on to do a Hood movie that wasn’t that, and also wasn’t the more interesting “Robin and the Sheriff are the same guy” initial pitch

I saw that tagline thrown onto a tv spot the other day & got whiplash. I had to rewind it, it popped up so fast. Even the voiceover guy seemed to be out of breath as he said it, & he barely completed it before the spot ended. Literally couldn’t believe how tacked on it felt. Then I saw this story 😂

Reminds me of Russell Crowe signing up to play the Sherriff in ‘Nottingham’ - a movie where Robin is the bad guy - then hearing about the peasants revolt from Billy Bragg and deciding that was the story that needed telling. Turned out it wasn’t. Nottingham script still unproduced.
