This is a remarkable book. A couple of sequences felt a bit repetitive but the characters are so vivid it earns any minor indulgence. Like a lot of the stuff I enjoy these days it’s the humanity that hits home. #BookSky

‘Wildwood’ director Travis Knight on AI: “A pencil is a tool. A paintbrush is a tool. A 3D printer is a tool. A digital capture is a tool. AI is not a tool. AI can go fuck itself.”

That cunt Matt Hancock got £300,000 for I'm A Celebrity, £40,000 for Celebrity SAS. He should be in the jail. We do not live in a serious society.

Finally watching East of Eden - Tracy Letts is so good it’s unsettling. Unbearable almost. Immediately it finished I saw five minutes of Divorce where he’s an entirely different but equally credible kind of flawed American male. The guy can act, I’m saying.

Foolishly I read this during my working day. Now I am incredibly depressed and pessimistic. But soon I’ll have an AI character called Iggy to help me find something cheery to watch on iPlayer, so, y’know.

Just saw an ad for an AI screenplay analysis service which, as an example of its product, offered a bullet point analysis of how Taxi Driver could be improved. Taxi. Driver. (Wonder what AI’s number one fan Paul Schrader would make of that.)

Jeffrey A passing reminds me I need to seize the day. Like one time I saw him in Edinburgh and didn’t call him a prick. Whereas my brother in law once saw Leon Brittan in London and ran after his ministerial car to flick the vs at him. Makes you think.

Watched The Bone Temple. Ralph is great and the Jimmies are scary but it misses the emotional depth Jodie Comer brought to the previous film. For all the talk of it being a trilogy the boy’s story is sidelined. Good enough that I’ll be watching the final one, like.

It is a colossal political failure to have encouraged the UAE to buy up swathes of the British economy and prized cultural assets like Manchester City while evidence of its greed and brutality and contempt for the rule of law was all around. Two @fairsqprojects.bsky.social reports worth reading 👇

He’s concerned because he welcomed investment from an obviously corrupt foreign state backed operation.

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham: “I'd be really concerned to lose Manchester City's owners. They’ve been such a huge partner in the building of modern Manchester, and obviously in building Manchester City into the global force that it is.”

Went to a packed screening of Cruising at Glasgow Film Theatre tonight. Five minutes in a young guy stood up, proclaimed loudly ‘nah, this is too gay for me’ and left to laughter and a smattering of applause.

This is wonderful. I’m guessing you’d enjoy @ianrsalmon.bsky.social

There’s a brilliant piece by David Hayden @seventydys.bsky.social in the new edition of Science & Magic. It’s a chapter called The Dead Mixer from his novel ‘All Our Love’ You can read it here and you should because it’s very good! www.violetterecords.com/science-and-...

Also worth noting that every success they’ve enjoyed since is fruit of the poison tree. Nothing they’ve won is legitimate. Not a single thing. The Lance Armstrong of football.

I was living in Manchester when City went down to the ‘third tier.’ Remember fans - good friends of mine - singing ‘are the Reds going to Grimsby are they fuck?’ Those guys’ll be fine. Fuck everyone else involved.

Oh. Oh good.

Saint Etienne were tremendous at Barrowlands last night. A band me and my OH loved even before we loved each other, and have seen together many times over the last three decades, none of them better than this, their last ever show in Scotland.

Child: I’ve made a playlist for when you drive me to university Me: Good idea Child: loads of Beatles on it for mum Me: Also smart. Child: Track one, She’s Leaving Home - Me: (Choke sob) Are you out of your fucking mind?

This is a strange novel - the relentless precision of the writing makes it an uncomfortable, even chilling experience throughout. The central characters are a little younger than me, like a half a generation away, but they feel incredibly true to life. #BookSky

I am bloody proud to be an #RNLI supporter and member! These brilliant men and women have quite enough to cope with without being harassed by the scum of the earth. Their only concern is to help people in danger at sea - not check passports first! Which is how it should be. Please RT if you agree🙏

Over on X, the far-right British Patriots have launched a hate campaign against the RNLI They are recording RNLI volunteers in order to dox them, reveal their identities and publish details of where they and their families live These men are dangerous
