Wrote one of my weirdest free pieces in a while today, going out tomorrow. The tech industry is a cargo cult and I followed the comparison as far as 7000 words can take me.

As I predicted two weeks ago, everyone is being told to go and do token-intensive loops. Use more tokens folks! Follow the great prophecy! If everybody keeps doing the right thing at the same time they’ll drop more stuff from the sky! Do not doubt the AI industry! www.wheresyoured.at/ai-is-slowin...

No it’s LLMs prompting LLMs and reviewing the work of LLMs to decide which prompt to do next. Everybody is flapping their arms and screeching at the sky in the hopes the great prophecy is fulfilled. bsky.app/profile/whur...

So basically full circle back to automation™️ and IFTTT??

There is a video out there circulating of a guy who hands his wallet to Jensen Huang so he can autograph it, and Huang takes all the money out and hands it to some women, we’re past the wallet inspector horizon now, Sam Altman could tell these people to walk into the ocean

I've never quite understood why tokens are involved in this at all. Is it because so much of the AI nonsense pivoted from crypto/NFT and felt like they needed an arbitrary layer rather than just having a service?

Same word, entirely different usage. AI tokens are a measure of work done (and resources used) and are not arbitrary. The cost basis is similar to a utility so it only makes sense to charge metered rates. This is a reasonably understandable explainer of what a token is within the context of LLMs

More than half of what Claude outputs is bullshit I skim past. I don't need a deep dive when I ask it to write me a function. All those long winded responses eat up tokens and now Claude has decided to constantly reference our previous conversations even when they're irrelevant.

One of my main clients requires us to use Claude, and I also loathe all the BS status updates it spits out about what it's doing when I prompt it. I told you to review this copy against the client's compliance guidelines; just produce the fuckin' word doc with the red lines, already.
