Capitalism didn't give us the internet. Large-scale cooperation, open protocols, and free software gave us the internet. Capitalism gave us mobile sites that don't work because fifteen ads cover the screen.

J. C. R. Licklider gave us the Internet by funneling large piles of Vietnam-era ARPA defense money to computer research of only tangential military value.

Lately I tend to think that the internet open to the public has made more damage than benefit. I wonder how the world would be with an internet restricted to scientific collaboration and not much more, maybe just email and instant messages.

DARPA funds a lot of projects that are "of military interest" but not necessarily how to bullet better. CompSci and DARPA were close bedfellows for most of early computing history on account of Los Alamos, etc. This is accurately characterizable as general publicly funded research.

Was recently thinking about how everyone is carrying around the ultimate weapon of the cold war in their pocket. The smartphone is a miniturized terminal for a communication system designed to survive a nuclear war that has access to a military satellite network.

capitalism IS cancer, eating the world (and us)!, It NEEDS to DIE! Don't believe any of the LIES we're told about it. The tech oligarchs aren't any "geniuses" who "created" anything from whole-cloth, they took it from others, like say micro$haft who stole their "original" "products" from who?

From GOVERNMENT think tank credited for the good of the country, the People, SOCIETY (who the reich-wing says doesn't exist "only the individual" (if there's justice maggie burns forever)). Of-course elon didn't create anything... Pity he didn't die in the mines he probably never stepped foot in.
