I'm all for charity, but an annoying thing about giving money to charity is that once you do they'll never stop spamming you for more money. "Hey remember that time you gave us money? Want to give us more? Money? Money Please? Money? Money?" Man, I'm not rich I just wanted to help out once.

How is that AI Seinfeld show on twitch still running, even though it never gets more than 3 viewers after the novelty immediately wore off? Just pack it up already.

This dude was talking about how it was the future of entertainment, because he didn't understand people were only watching because it was something new and kind of weird.

As an experiment, try leaving work 2 hours early every day until your boss notices. When they do tell them "It's cool, I used AI to get 8 hours of work done in 6 hours!" Report back and tell everyone how that went.

It feels like all absurd myths originate when someone realizes "Wait, you can just fabricate something and millions of people will believe it, no matter how asinine? That works?" And then they go "Uhh the earth is hollow" just to test the theory, and they find out, yes that's exactly how it works.

It's like when I was a kid and learning about how computers work, and cybersecurity was even worse than it is now, and I would try things like email spoofing just to see if it actually worked, and going "Oh wow, haha uh oh" after it did.

If AI really is as good as they say, and you don't need to know anything or have any skill to effectively use it, then how is it possible to "fall behind"? If I did "fall behind", what would it take to catch up? Just start using it? Ok, well if that happens, then that's what I'll do, problem solved.

Like the last time I had jury duty, this guy tried to bring "surprise evidence" that he hadn't shown anyone and the judge immediately shut him down, and then he still tried a few more times.

Companies selling AI agents actually correctly identified the main problem in most peoples lives, which a lack of free time. The issue is, they think the reason for this is because we're all super busy booking appointments and writing emails all day or something?

When I say using AI is lazy, a common retort is, why do unnecessary work? Aren't all productivity tools lazy? I'm talking about carelessness, not level of effort. There's no attention to detail in genAI outputs, that's why it's lazy, it's just another way to cut corners.

this is the thing about automation, as every automation Knower will tell you: you automate the repetitive tasks; the more variability and idiosyncracy there is (aka the real world) the fewer zeroes you get after the decimal on reliability, pretty soon the results are unacceptable

Saving this now to make up for not saving a screenshot of the polls in 2006 saying the 2008 election was going to be between Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani.

Kind of bonkers how doing the "very responsible adult in the room moderate centrist" thing leads you to extreme positions like genocide denial.

If genAI is inevitable, why do they care about people criticizing it? Why do they care about local communities pushing back against data centers? If it's inevitable, that's all irrelevant right? You can just brush that all off, sit back and wait silently as they're all proven wrong.

sure yeah, can't even make a stick figure without fucking up and no one at the company gives enough of a shit to even give it another pass but go ahead and take my money so i can use this lazy shit technology every day too

I see in the trending topics that it's talk like a pirate day. Honestly surprised that's still a thing, I thought that died with the rest of the awful The Oatmeal era "le epic bacon" millennial humor.

I keep seeing people saying "AI has only gotten better!" and every time I see it, it's still a piece of shit? Has it actually gotten better, or are you just repeating someone else telling you it's gotten better? Because every piece of observable evidence points to it still being garbo.

🤖 AI actress 'Tilly Norwood' glitches 😵‍💫 and starts speaking CHINESE during interview with Piers Morgan w/ Tom Conti

A thing I don't get about AI Doomerism is that it's incredibly expensive to run. If superintelligent AI set out on a mission to destroy humanity, who is paying the tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars in compute that would cost? Would no one notice? And what happens when the money runs out?

How is it that we designed a whole system of government where the goal was to try to ensure no individual had too much power, but nobody considered that money is also power and the power held by a single person with a vast sum of money is just as much or more of a threat as any government official?

"Software was buggy before AI!" This is true, but the problem is twofold. First, bugs are easier to fix when you've written the code yourself, because you have an intuition about what the problem might be. Second, the rate at which it introduces bugs is faster than the rate they can be resolved.

What does this even mean? Debating his stance on his opponent? How one candidate feels about the other is the voters top priority? "If elected, I will enact my no Ken Paxtons allowed policy" It's funny seeing this busted ass bullshit and thinking about the CTO crashing out over people not liking AI

A pet peeve of mine is when someone responds to an analogy with "those aren't the same thing!" Of course they're not, it's an analogy! Literally an analogue - a thing that is similar. If they were the same thing, it wouldn't be an analogue anymore, it would just be another example of the thing!

It's weird how we just decided that people who go to ivy league schools get to run the country and nobody questions it. Like, why? It's just an athletic conference. It's not like it's some incubator imbuing people with superhuman abilities that make them superior to everyone else.

I do think “every rich person went insane during covid because it was the first time they’ve been inconvenienced in decades” felt a little reductive at first but damn if isn’t more and more compelling as the years drag on

Ghosts have the ability to scare evil wealthy people into changing their attitude, and they only used that power to make one dude not be such an asshole on Christmas?

People say "AI is only going to get better", but it's never once actually gotten better. It's true that it's making fewer errors, but that is not the same thing as being better. Hitler's paintings were shit but it's not because he made mistakes while painting them, they're just shit.
