Good-faith concern on this issue would be going, "hmm, professional sports leagues should probably have some standards in place to ensure trans competitors aren't getting an unfair advantage," googling for 5 minutes, realizing every sports league already has those standards and dropping it.

i don't believe anyone has "good-faith" concerns about trans women in sports in 2026. there's been too much time to hear the actual evidence, the actual people affected, and the role the debate plays in attempts to purge trans people from American life. anybody picking that side has made a choice

Same with gender-affirming care for kids. Good-faith concern would be, "gee we should be making sure kids are appropriately assessed before receiving care and don't end up regretting it," realizing the numbers are tiny, kids are assessed and regret rates are miniscule and then dropping it.

Bathrooms: "Gee we should be making sure predators aren't pretending to be trans to get into women's bathrooms and attacking them," realizing this is essentially an urban legend and then dropping it.

Every one of these debates is the exact same thing: "Can you theoretically imagine someone abusing this for nefarious goals?" "Yes." "Is it happening?" "No or negligibly." "Are there safeguards in place?" "Yes." "Should we very cruelly over-react in ways that hurt people anyway?" "Yes!"

I don't know how you're supposed to talk people out of the idea that policy shouldn't be punitive and cruel to vulnerable members of our society just to prevent a problem that only exists for the brief moment between first imagining it and then briefly thinking through the implications.

Yep. Objections to any and all forms of welfare inevitably boil down to "I can imagine a person I consider unworthy benefiting, therefore all the actual existing worthy people will just have to do without."

It's not an imagined problem, it's a made-up problem. The punishment and cruelty is the point, because transphobes want to force trans people out of doing normal things like sports and using public bathrooms.

If you have to think through the implications of something 'imagined', that suggests an honest worry. I don't think those pushing to exclude trans women from women's sports where ever honestly worried about their inclusion.
