Don't mind me, I'm off to gut higher education, one of the UK's most successful and globally respected exporting industries, because I think doing so will let me defeat white nativism with immigration charts. I am the most naive human being alive.

Well I like that Brexit tale of being better outside the EU - by paying the EU £50 billion of taxpayers money, in order to make ourselves poorer. What a hoot.

What is the makeup of the UK migration reversal? Is it all talent fleeing the high living cost/high tax climate, plus potential talent unable to navigate tougher immigration laws? Or is there any progress at all in blocking those who will struggle to find jobs in the UK? UK deficit needs B not A.

I'm no immigration expert, but I do recruit occasionally from overseas and my understanding is that you need a valid work VISA to enter the UK to work (& you need a sponsor and a job), so the latter part of your comment makes no sense to me.

In 2025 "813,000 people migrated into the UK and 642,000 emigrated from it, resulting in net migration of 171,000." This kind of movement is bound to be disruptive, losing trained people and getting untrained folks. Chart shows flows both ways are huge. commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-bri...

commonslibrary.parliament.ukMigration statisticsHow is migration measured in the UK, how has migration changed over time, and how does UK migration compare with migration in EU countries?

Do you live in the UK? Have you travelled in Europe? When Europeans pay taxes they get public services and low costs in return. This country is full of hidden costs and zero subsidies. Uni education is free in Europe, train tickets, sporting events are all subsidized. The UK is a ripoff.

Oh, that I agree with. I guess my point is our taxes are too low to provide that all-you-can-eat public service offer. So tax rises are necessary but only ever go towards firefighting, rather than really securing the public realm. Palpable sense of decline.

Blackeye Bazza and the Restraining Order Lads putting down the firebombs and unsnorting four lines of cocaine after you show them an ONS data derived seasonally adjusted net migration chart for the last eight fiscal quarters.

How does this country keep giving into its worst instincts when the results are always the same? Are we never going to learn that pandering to anti-immigration sentiment not only doesn't work it's completely self-defeating? 8% of GDP for a small boat crisis and the joke of points based immigration
