A MAGA freak in Texas murdered his own daughter in cold blood after they had an argument about Trump. A grand jury in the Dallas area then *declined to indict him*, and he has not yet faced charges. Seems like many Texans believe a man has the right to kill his own child for disobedience.

The details of this case are enraging evidence of the vicious, virulent misogyny that runs through everything Trump and his demonic cultists do and say.

I used the word “child” because a person’s adult child is still *their child*, not because I was somehow implying the victim of this crime was not a fully grown adult.

I periodically tell my students that I'm teaching them Latin because they need to learn how to read closely & carefully lest they become a So You Hate Waffles person online as adults.

It's mostly a matter of getting the kids, who are very fast readers in English, to slow down and figure out what the Latin sentence actually says, not what they guess it says based on context, recognizing some words, and vibes. I especially point out when they've reversed meanings entirely.

I wasn't fortunate, like your students are, in having access to Latin classes at a young age. As an older adult, studying classical & liturgical Latin has always felt like very healthy (and fun!) mental exercise, as if I were taking my brain to the gym.

I didn't get to learn Latin until college myself. And I taught undergrads intro Latin for some years before I finished my PhD and went into K12 teaching. Every year, there'd be a student over 50 taking Latin just because they wanted to know it. Always my favorites; they asked the best questions.
