i genuinely don't have a PROBLEM with Mastodon in that I'm glad it exists, is doing other stuff with federated social media, and that some people seem to really like using it. it is just not For Me and I am not interested in trying it again (because I like Bluesky! Bluesky is enjoyable for me!)

The main argument I hear from Mastodon proponents is that nobody can come and buy it like it happened to Twitter, while this can happen to Bluesky. I have zero background to actually understand how Bluesky functions "in the background," but I also don't feel like this is what users care about much

Bluesky is also federated social media (albeit not as fully federated as Mastodon is today) and is taking some active steps towards true decentralization and ensuring that the entire network can't be bought and destroyed by somebody evil.

Exactly how I feel. I hope Mastodon perfectly serves the needs of people who consider it their platform of choice, I simply know that is not and will never be me.

I think if you're in a headspace where you can develop genuine vendettas against other people because they like an open source social media website you don't like, you should probably get a hobby

Same here. Mastodon and the Fediverse have a reason to exist and serve their communities well. It's just not my cup of tea The Atmosphere feels like a metropolis, while the Fediverse feels like a region full of small towns; towns that sometimes burn bridges between them

Call me shallow, but In the two or three weeks I was on Mastodon, it seemed more like a place for people to post their term papers or opinion pieces they couldn't sell rather than an actual social media site that involved conversational exchanges or even rants. #BigYawn

I tried Mastodon in before Bluesky. I found it excruciatingly, boring and stopped even looking after about two weeks. It did seem like a good side for polemicists, though. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not being able to customize the trigger/spoiler hide/show behaviour was a major irritant for me. Useful tool, but could I turn it off? Not then, and apparently not now.

I'm enjoying Bluesky a lot more than Mastodon also. Aside from the ethno-facists, sex pests and other degenerates, everything else on X that gave me a rash or made me twitch deep in my anti-authoritarian bones was 100%worse on Mastodon.

My main problem with mastodon is that the obvious instance for me was for a different sub-sub-group than the one that I would have liked so I found the content there mostly boring and I didn't see how to find stuff off of it and then I got a bluesky invite and that worked better for me.

I think the problem with Mastodon is that the way its federation works makes the experience so inconsistent for 90 percent of users. In this very thread, you have people complaining about the censorship, and the amount of sex pests. Clearly users ending up in different instances.

In some ways I think it’s a better technical design the atproto and could be even better if the userbase wasn’t so ideologically opposed to things like “being able to find posts” that they send death threats to people who try to solve the problem
