I would never presume to tell Brazilians how their country should be run, but holy shit, for the things Brazil did right against authoritarianism, Lula needs to hand this shit off to the next generation ASAP if he wins. Roadmap something, for the love of democracy, bro.

Obligatory: not saying Lula is perfect. But he seems much more into democracy than *most* current leaders in the western hemisphere.

wrote about "Black October," the PHP vulnerability, and the AI-fueled dread and panic I'm seeing among almost all of the cybersecurity experts I've ever known. I think people w/ LLMs are brute forcing software the same way they brute forced social media w/ slop www.404media.co/php2shell-bl...

404media.coAI Is Changing Everything About Hacking. No One Knows What Happens Next'Black October:' The PHP vulnerabilities and a series of other hacks and bugs have cybersecurity experts freaking out and unsure what happens next.

Will never forget the joy Bioware brought me throughout my young adult life. However, as Black Isle begat Obsidian (who I'm also worried about, now, thanks to Microsoft), maybe we'll get a baby Bioware to pick up the baton.

The AI 'Reverse Engineer Anything' craze is going to further sloppify the real world & put insecure buggy stuff on all sorts of hardware. It is also going to liberate a bunch of internet of shit devices that have been needlessly bricked by their manufacturers www.404media.co/reverse-engi...

404media.co‘Reverse-Engineer Anything’ Is the New Wild West of AIDecompiled, cloned, and modified software is going viral and might slopify everything.

Just saw the Netflix mini documentary about the OpenAI/Hugging Face incident. What a credulously presented piece of propaganda dogshit. No hate for the two kind-of, marginally critical interviewees, but it didn't explain the actual incident at all, and uses an anthropomorphic framing for everything.

I genuinely feel more stupid and less informed about how LLMs work after watching it.

We're all acting like this is such an egregious thing to hear an American military commander say when we just lived through 20 years of them swearing they were "turning a corner" in Afghanistan and the Taliban were totally defeated year after year.

MeidasTouch@meidastouch.com

Yikes. In a desperate-sounding video, CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper insists the Strait of Hormuz is “controlled by the United States… not Iran” and “open for business,” despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

An (auto-translated into English) interview with SharpWinner about patriotic "red" hacktivists and hackers in China and his plans for a book that he wanted to have turned into a movie. This interview in 2005 would have been after the peak of Chinese hacktivism as the government turned against it.

I’ve never heard of a cyberattack affecting food on this scale before. Individual factories or storage facilities have been hit in the past but 150 grocery stores is unprecedented. Very curious as to who did this, seems like software used for remote management of fridges had a serious vulnerability.

Prof. Eliot Jacobson@climatecasino.net

Your 'bonus moment of doom' for today: "A major cyberattack targeting commercial refrigeration systems across France ... Rather than shutting systems off, the attackers remotely reprogrammed cooling regulators to force a continuous defrost cycle, driving internal temperatures up to 50C (122F)."

More ICE killings. The livestreamed execution. This completely new level of betraying Ukraine. I just can't process my shame at being American right now.

Oh yeah, let's not forget formally sanctioning the ICC. I would be in jail of I articulated what I thought should happen to every member of this absolutely monstrous administration.

Maybe I'm just a stupid idiot barbarian, but I think I'm the only person who thought Hokum was a bad movie, and I enjoyed the Lee Cronin Mummy film. Genuinely don't know why the reviews of these movies aren't reversed. What the hell am I missing?

Okay, I'll take that back a little bit. One was supposed to be a dumb gross-out take on The Mummy and did an enjoyable (but imperfect) job (6/10). Hokum felt like "relying on people making strange decisions and bad jump scares", yet I keep hearing it's incredible folk horror (4/10). I don't get it.

Leviticus sorely underrated in this year's horror lineup. Great movie. Might be my favorite. Up there with Obsession and Back Rooms.

I *too* hyperfixated on test scores and my "wasted potential" as I nearly slipped through the ADHD cracks of American education. Even thought it was actually everyone else's fault I was poorly adjusted. Then I turned 22.

like I suspect many of you on This Website, I think a core reason why I find Eliezer Yudkowsky and his rationalist and effective altruist satellites so intensely annoying is because I had a VERY similar “being a super weird, pretentious, hyper-literate kid” experience - I just, you know, grew up.

There's a timeline where I had rich, shitty parents that indulged this horse shit, and ended up like Sam Bankman Fried.
