personally, I believe that it’s highly disrespectful to animals to believe that they’re all naturally pure and good-hearted. I believe that individual animals are just like people, in that some of them are naturally inclined to be cool and some of them are naturally inclined to be complete assholes

This discussion gets really messy really fast though because some of the relevant behavioral tendencies are correlated with breed traits, but not reducible to them — and not usually the ones people think (which are entangled in racist, classist stereoypes about their humans).

People who claim that pointing out some breeds have more aggressive traits than others is the same as being racist against humans are absolute trash

I’m more partial to GSD, APBT or heeler mixes; my current two have a dash of even more challenging breeds like Akita & Chow. We spend a *lot* of time training, because size + prey drive is a traffic safety risk. But the only dog that’s ever drawn blood — let alone facial stitches — was a dachshund.

I think everyone should train their dog; when necessary have backup management strategies in place to ensure everyone’s happiness and safety. (This is a surprisingly unpopular opinion.) Relatedly: not all dogs need to go everywhere with you. Most would prefer not to.
