We need to make it a federal crime for police officers to use surveillance data in any unauthorized fashion. Put a few of these loathsome people away for 20+ years, and I guarantee we’ll see a whole lot less of this behavior.

There is just no way law enforcement can be trusted with access to these cameras- I will go even farther and say there is no organization that can be trusted. The cameras shouldn't exist

Currently, police are demanding both obscene amounts of surveillance power and a slap on the wrist when they abuse it, as they seem to be doing incessantly and gleefully. We do not need to tolerate this.

also, just saying, it may be time to end ubiquitous logins through any old machine and just back to the era of "this ONLY comes through this one terminal in theis one office of this building and access is by court order only"

I had to get fingerprinted and take a whole (short) FBI course on CJIS data (similar to HIPAA training) just to even be adjacent to (not even actually access) crime data so I really hope there's a way because the amount of data from ALPRs is insane in comparison

We need to make policing require licensing and a degree program to get there - like teaching, law or cosmetology. Just having something to revoke for DV, stalking, abuse of power, excessive violence, etc will keep the worst actors out of our neighborhoods. Bonus if they actually know their job

Also incentivize them to turn violators in, every vetted and proven violation should enable a bounty payment to the reporting party. If they really want to clean up rather than defund and start over, seems like some version of getting the good guys to identify the bad guys is necessary.
