most drunk texts: blahhhhhhhh me: the world is full of beauty and wonder and it is a joy to share it with those close to me

direct flight between two of America's three busiest airports: exactly $250 from every real airline direct flight to a relatively tiny airport 3 hours away: $140 + a $40 amtrak ticket to make the connection. effectively it's $70 off for a layover

I think subconsciously people register that this is the move of a juiceless replacement level mook and people saying they won't vote for them touches that raw fear nerve

If it's the sound political strategy you claim to believe it is, what are you worried about, you'll more than make those lost votes up in disgusting centrists, right? Right? But you know deep down it doesn't work like that

I think people intuitively understand that democratic candidates tossing trans kids to the wolves is not only morally repugnant but also politically ineffective, otherwise they wouldn't freak out every time someone said they weren't voting for a democrat who did this

people who live in Chicago and are like virulently against the development of trains are so funny to me. like, they are the reason you are here! the downtown is named after a rail interchange! the entire region is an 1800s speculative bubble that was bailed out by being The Railroad Place!

if you don't wash your glasses with a touch of hand soap every day I just don't understand you, it's goated

The most horrifying part about this to me is that there's ways to do paperwork to prevent this, but poor people are not taught about it, we are not informed that we need to do this, rich people know all the paperwork secrets and they intentionally keep poor people from them

if millennials could afford homes this wouldnt be a problem but this is going to hit the generation like a truck

Not a spoiler but absolutely see You Can See Everything in a crowded theater, this is one of the "the crowd's reactions are part of the experience" movies of all times. The yelps when something cursed happens or is revealed enhance it so, so much.

all I will say on You Can See Everything (other than that it is one of the most remarkable movies ever made) is that it is absolutely best viewed in a theater full of people, in one uninterrupted sitting. Don't wait, run don't walk

by continually convincing yourself that "no, no, listen, THIS TIME i swear the bigotry is just clever electoral calculus" youll end up with We Need More Woman Ice Agents And A 2% Tax Rebate For Struggling Families Who Make Over 200k A Year guys every single time

its really funny how willingness to throw trans people under the bus is a 100% accuracy indicator for exactly the kind of guy a politician is and yet every single time we have to go through the "noooo hes not a spineless opportunist who'll say whatever is convenient its different this time" cycle

John Breen@breen.tech

So uh, this guy actually kinda sucks, huh?

can someone help me find a skeet? I swear I read one that was something like: AI is like pissing on the floor, coming back the next day to find it cleaned up (by someone else), and declaring we no longer need toilets

you know if the cubs winning the World Series in 2016 unlocked the fascist hell timeline we live in now, we should probably let the Guardians win the World Series this year to try and undo all that, right

finally bothered to get a haircut and I look so much less gross that I just sobbed ugly joy tears the entire drive home

Have you noticed, lately, or noticed people around you commenting, that there just seems to be no money anymore. There's no money for companies to make the tv shows you like, the video games you like, the local diner you like shut down, no one you know can find a job. Think about that in context of

Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

AI is now the biggest investment in all of US history as a percentage of GDP. Datacenter construction is up, all other construction is down. "AI Is Squeezing Out the Rest of the Stock Market," reported WSJ 2 days ago. We basically bet the whole economy on the most optimistic visions panning out.

the entire conservative movement in the US is structurally dependent on taking income taxes out of paychecks instead of headcount taxes from businesses. a basic change in the *presentation* of where revenue comes from and suddenly millions aren't mad from seeing a higher number become a lower number

I love how some VC bros bought a beloved gay club in Boystown and then renamed it "the (name of street it's on)", broadcasting their complete lack of awareness of the culture of the area. Shamelessly covering the club with "open until 4/5 am" signs hoping that the desperate settle for them

it's the (brief) consensus of half a dozen adults that I'm worth moving to Chicago for and nobody can take that honor away from me

hating myself is one thing but when the most beautiful brilliant minds of my generation talk themselves into at least briefly living in this amazing city at least in part because I'm around I feel a distinct honor that nobody can fucking take from me, like I lived my life the right way after all

is TikTok any good anymore, I do not wish to browse a reels app but I do kind of wanna post random takes sometimes and TikTok used to be for that, just haven't logged on since The Event

Imagine looking at the media landscape—music, books, movies—and concluding that it would be better if it were all simply infinite reflections of yourself, if you never had to be exposed to another personality, another experience, another life. Just you, you, you. Sounds fucking horrifying.

what keeps me up at night is these guys have basically never received real pushback and they still lost their minds and shredded the federal government's regulatory capacity when employees started griping too much in the company slack. What if you actually arrested one of them for their crimes

yeah I think my life is probably better off deleting the Instagram app from my phone. nothing I do there is a good idea. I think this means nothing on my phone will show me reels anymore? maybe I'll be able to get bored and put it down again

we need someone to make an app that just provides a list of social media posts from my favorite bars or whatever, but with neither reels nor The Algorithm

we as a society have to stop having those freakishly weird reels or clips where someone's head is physically pinned in one place while everything else moves. it's deeply unnatural and gives this horrid vertigo

is Chicago capable of opening and operating a lesbian bar that is not hosting a special event every single night. like a bar where I can just show up and not have to like Have Something Happening at all times

I don't know what I expected but the Friday night experience at Pizza Lobo, which I feel is worth emphasizing is a _bar_, is that of having roughly two dozen children sprinting around the patio and throwing rocks at patrons for two hours. Wait staff had to lecture the idle and distracted parents!

There's an overtly kid-marketed pizza place bar like two blocks down the street at Stop Along; they had to destroy my beloved Boiler Room to give y'all that. can y'all go there and leave Lobo for the bitter hipsters like god intended
