As important as they are, most con #ttrpg GMs in the UK only pay lip service to safety tools. They simply aren't used. People may note that they will use X-cards or open tables, but they aren't in evidence, and safety is not outlined at the beginning of the session. A more directed approach needed.

Hot take 2 GMs need some help in fitting a #ttrpg session into a 3/3.5/4 hour session duration. A summary of techniques to bring a session together, with a meaningful conclusion within the time available. It can be done, but you need to be mindful about time management. Over-running is poor GMing.

Quick tips: aim to finish early and you'll probably land more like on time! Have modular scenes / encounters you can drop / add. Don't be frightened of telling the players if you (and they) need to push the pace. You're all in it together. Timing can come with practice, run more games 😁

Included in a new 'GM Onboarding' message! More: - Accelerate scenes by narrating the outcome - Tell players they have found all the clues in a scene - Use 'Breaks' as timing support - Allow for the complexity of your game system - Rehearse your game intro to get you into play as quickly as possible

Interesting. I did a GM briefing ahead of the last GROGMEET setting out their responsibilities about safety tools and β€˜don’t over run’, but I’m not sure if it just added additional lip service.

To be fair our Graham, there hasn't been a strong drive to day use them. It's been more of gentle encouragement at the Garricons 😁 There is nothing in the FAQ that mentions them that I could see, that'd be one development opportunity. I did see my most people talk about safety at learning in my xp
