The two main reasons this hasn’t taken off before now: * frontier AI not smart enough for truly safe self driving (tech) * using the same expensive vehicles built for humans (cost) Every 6 months the AI gets smarter and the vehicles should be extremely cheap shuttle-like things.

You keep linking to your own posts. But they only prove that you said something, not that what you said is true. You did the same thing with your NYT gift article. Which, from the image you posted, was just something you wrote that was under review. Your word isn’t data or evidence. It’s opinion.

Unless, of course, you’re not a fan of trusting China with rolling surveillance machines and your personal ability to not be hit by a billionaire profit generator while walking to work. The public reaction to these remains skeptical because tech bros give us no reason to trust them. Nor does China.

Some ♿ people can transfer into a seat and put on a seat belt but who's going to put my wheelchair in the back? If they came up with a handicapped version, I'd still be avoiding anything from Amazon unless there was no other choice. And this takes jobs from real people.

But if you must remain in your wheelchair, how do safety tie-downs work? Do any models have automatic ramps? I'd likely need one of those even when using my rollator walker, which also has the problem of someone needing to put it into the back for safety.

When I get a WAV Uber, they always lift me with the ramp and then manually lock me in with 4 straps (requires a person). If I had a rolator/walker, I could fold that up myself and slide it between seats. 👨‍🦽 are so much heavier. But not everyone can lift a folded rolator. We are all different.

Thank you! Waymo has been running adverts about how they’re actually just in it for disabled peoples’ mobility. And I find the very prospect that they want to pretend their profit motive is secondary to be a red flag.

Yeah but they also don’t pay the other drivers and the pedestrians and passengers who share the road, and therefore the risk. Also, how fun do we think it will be to try to get accident claims paid when you have to fight a billion dollar law firm representing the infallible shoe boxes?!

I’ve been breathlessly assured recently that this is just a normal part of the change of the economy over time. Which I would buy if it wasn’t also another ratcheting of income equality in a time where it is almost as bad as 1860.

This is ridiculous and dangerous how elite billionaires are working to eliminate any human accountability for accidents. I saw someone kick the $400 roomba their spouse just got, across a tiny room like a football, and this drive for even more technology that the majority won’t ever need is awful

My phone, computer, computerized watch, etc. screws up. We often get recalls on car parts that have been around forever. My GPS sometimes takes me in circles. Too soon for driverless cars. My theory is this is being rolled out quickly because potential revenue outweighs potential lawsuits .

There is not a chance in hell I would ride in one of those things it's a suicide run I would rather ride a bike or walk or take mass transit which is what this country needs at the very least put a f****** steering wheel in it and give the driver some kind of control Jesus WTF

I have worked in Information Technology for decades. People have too much faith in AI, especially self driving vehicles. My understanding of even the best coders makes me say this.

If it fattens Bezos' wallet I would boycott it. Even if it doesn't I would still boycott it for taking jobs away and for safety reasons. Tech bros, there are many people like me who want you to fail. Your arrogance disgusts us.👎

Why are they allowed to deploy this kind of thing before they have regulatory approval? So glad I live in the UK, where cybertrucks aren't road legal, let alone this nonsense.

Techbrofascists invent a worse version of something that already exists, puts the public at risk with irresponsible and dangerous product testing. Invertebrate corpo bootlickers pretending to be journalists push sponsored content to shill this garbage.

Amazing. I can leave my house. Be on a public bus within an hour on a public high-speed train. On a ferry to the European Continent with high-speed trains to all European capital cities 44 in total. While American travellers are still waiting at their airports. For an internal flight. 🇮🇪🇪🇺

If it’s like Waymo, they send their own safety data to NTHSA for review who will then rubber stamp the results because the federal agencies, to include that one, are now staffed by apparatchiks and tech bros. Without third party independent, full spectrum testing, we are just taking their word 4 it

And now that I know the new Waymo cars are 3 tons…that’s double the weight of my car, if not more. There is no way getting hit by that won’t cause a lot of damage!

Well Uber and Lift drivers, there go the side gigs. So do rich people think they can just continue to automate the economy, fire all humans, and escape the revolution that follows? When millions of unemployed, starving people decide to, in fact, eat the rich.

I saw these driving around San Francisco last January. They also had them in Las Vegas. In April, one hit a passenger car in Las Vegas. In May, one hit an e-scooter in San Francisco. They were voluntarily recalled do to a "software issue."
