it's also a weird comparison because i can remember buying one windows license in my entire life... i got some OEM licenses from devices but it's not like i'm paying my shirt off to use windows either. i think the only device i've saved money on from using linux is the steam deck lol

not to mention how stupid easy it is to pirate windows nowadays i will give MS credit where its due, stuff like Windows Terminal/winget/Power Toys/new tiling features in 11 are really nice. but like. to say windows is _inherently_ easy and worth your time is total cope or just familiarity bias

Wait, out of genuine curiosity how did you start using linux when you were 9? I never even started using it until I was 13, in 2016.

terminally online and found out about Wubi (installed ubuntu in a virtual hard disk but wllowed it to boot natively from the windows bootloader)

i wish it was still around… it was the perfect balance between the noncommital virtual machine or liveusb and the usability of a permanent uninstalling a whole OS in control panel was always silly and made me smile too

I actually wanted to make an app similar to WUBI, but dropped the idea because of Secure Boot. Asking newbies to do their own research on how to go into their BIOS and disable it, wasn't gonna be very user friendly, so I dropped the idea. 😭

secure boot ruins fucking everything cool :( at least WSL exists. i do wonder how extensive WSL gui support is now… if you could run a unix DE or WM on top of windows it could be the perfect entry point
