Inconvenient? Yes. Impossible? No... considering we existed without all of these at one point. And Amazon, Netflix, and YouTube are not building blocks. They're conveniences and entertainment - NOT survival necessities. The main people that would be hit are the oligarchs.

Why would Amazon PayPal Netflix and YouTube even consider cutting off European customers?

It's a bit of a silly thought experiment when it doesn't include any business use of technology. Microsoft?

Telegram, Tutamail, Mapy, Linux, Libreoffice, Bizum... We don't need US tech, it's just inertia

We just switch, simple. Inconvenient for many, but we adapt and in a month no one will notice the difference. Or we use a VPN 😉

No Amazon, Paypal, Netflix and Youtube would probably be nice.

Whilst we're at it remove the forever subscription model so beloved of US tech companies - Musk would squeal like a stuck pig.

What a blessing that would be. No more money to the slave master Bezos. No money to a financial service that regularly freezes accounts, blocking funds. You might have to find something else to watch besides Netflix and YouTube, but the worst oligarchs of the West would be cut off.

I would LOVE to see that! Can we please PLEASE P L E A S E give it a go? None of the things listed here are truely essential. The only problems i could see is if they take out Microsoft or certain cloud services, other than that...

Just a teeny bit hyperbolic to describe these entertainment and shopping apps as 'The building blocks of our lives' It would be a bit irritating, but everyone would just move to non US equivalents. The tech companies would be the massive losers.

Lol i wouldn't use amazon if my life depended on it, only thing i would miss is youtube but it wouldn't be the end of the world, paypal is easily replaceable, i also don't have any streaming services, just good old pirate bay

You, americans, are so funny. You actually think the world can't exist without you? Just in Canada, there are enough substitutes for "american tech" that if you remove it all, we wouldn't feel a thing. Actually, the removal of american influence could cause an increase in the quality offered.

NGL, it doesn't sound *terrible*. The only one of those I use is Netflix, and it wouldn't kill me to lose that. Definitely none of them could be described as the "building blocks of my life".

Indeed though purposely shutting down AWS for even ten minutes would be the end of the cloud hosting industry. That said, many large European companies are moving away from AWS. We were forced to before our sale to a French company could happen.

I think we could all survive with out the above. It is possible to turn of a large part of the economy and infrastructure, because a lot of your public services are using the cloud. The cloud ver often is in the US or owned and governed by the US .

Literally all of them have European alternatives. All that would happen is a tough transition period followed by a complete break from giving our money to fascist billionaires. Trump is so stupid he may actually do it

Would be a hard, but convenient, restart, like the awakening from the fossil fuels 🚲

Life would go on, you know. Probably even a better life. At the beginning a bit inconvenient, but after a certain time one would get used to it.

People would adapt. There would be something to come along and take the place of this tech. The US isolating itself will be a problem for the US, not the rest of the world.

But big US tech would not be happy to lose EU customers overnight ☹️

Personally I would not miss Netflix, YouTube or Amazon.
