I never relied on smart devices and never understood why anyone would pay a premium for a modicum of added convenience. I understand why businesses with nefarious business plans want people to have them. They seemed like a liability even when AI was just a hacker with a laptop.

the ONLY way for them to stop this is to put their AI into a "sealed" complex. No external connections at all. Make it a dead zone. No laptops or wireless devices allowed inside.

Well then code the tool so it cannot do this. AI companies need to be held criminally and finacially responsible for these 'rogue' actions.
