Reminds me of when I encountered a thirsty couple with their dog on a trail. They said they weren’t thirsty, but f**k them, fine, I only gave water to the DOG.

Antropomorphing dogs. No, you don't need a fur coat to mimic being a dog. My cat lóves the heat, eventhough she's fully haired. She then often comes in to cool off, being totally warmed up. They simply slow down. So, that's the only advice: Slow down.

You know this is complete BS. There is no time of year when a fur coat and bare feet would be tolerable for a human. This suggests dogs are always miserable. Its ridiculousness just undermines the importance of the message.

Dogs can burn their pads on hot pavement when the temperature is in the mid 70s. If you can't keep the back of your hand on pavement for 15 seconds because it burns, think how a dogs paws feel. It's not about feeling miserable, it's about keeping them safe from hurting themselves

OR let the dog lead them to pass time in the first shady spot or pond for a swim. The only reason a dog follows an idiot in that heat is because it is restricted by a leash. Dogs know when to adjust a routine.

What's worse, when emergency RESCUE dog handlers don't give the dogs protection. I can't find it right now, but a news story once reported of a rescue dog that was submitted to the vet for cut up paws after going thru rubble for HOURS looking for survivors after earthquake. Irresponsible dog handling

There are times where I don't walk my dog until 9-10 at night. Even then the humidity is sometimes bad, so I shorten the walk and take water for him

Also, if you take a shit, put it in a plastic bag and carry it around with you. If you smell wee, wee on it, and if you another person smell their arse.

This is Buddy, he thinks you’re a very tupid man. Buddy can go out all day everyday, he likes sun, he likes rain, hail, snow, wind, storms, he knows ways to keep warm, he knows ways to keep cool.

Really? Maybe if you leave your dog out all day, but my medium and large relatively furry dogs are fine for extended periods (an hour plus) of "potentially dangerous" 40-85 degree temps. as long as they are active in colder temps and aren't constantly in the sun/have water in warmer temps.

Lol my dogs weren't even northern breeds (one was but only 1/8 Husky) and they'd get pissy if I tried to bring them inside when it was below freezing and snowing. Especially my Shepherd/Doberman mix. He'd stand belly deep in snow wagging his tail just staring at me if I tried making him go inside.

I've used cooling vests for my dogs -- they're great! (But I recommend buying from some place w/a good return policy b/c some brands are better than others. You'll want one that DOESN'T get heavy when wet.) bsky.app/profile/budd...

I'm in NYC, and I've had a Cooling Vest for my last 2 dogs. They're amazing (in case the band turns out to not be enough). These were invented IN the Netherlands for dogs (apparently adapted from cooling coats made for people out in the sun on sailboats)!

Last year while at the vets, our milo was having his yearly jab,we saw a dog with burnt pads, never forget the cry that dog had! Here in the UK, If its a hot day, always try to keep him on the grass verge. Morning walk 9am evening walk 6pm

Their coats breathe. That is the cause of their heat sensitivity. If you look at wild dogs in Africa, they know how to stay cool by being active at night & sleeping in the shade during the day. Humans need to create an environment similar to the pets Nature. Concrete/asphalt is Not nature either.

Why I trimmed my #Spitz #dog in this brutal heat, when ppl objected on the basis of aesthetics i.e. that she is cuter with fluffy fur than trimmed. I told them I couldn't care less because to me she is ALWAYS beautiful and her comfort is *way* more important!

Depends on the breed. I have two Rhodesians and they love the heat. They choose to lie on the driveway during summer. I don’t walk them on hot pavement b/c it should be their choice. In winter, we take them to an area with a pond. The Labs always come out of the water with frozen whiskers unfazed.

My dogs are inside for extreme cold or heat. They have their own dog houses and water outside but they are moved inside when needed. (The dog houses have exhaust fans and good shade.) Dogs are family, treat them well and they will love you always.

Great sign. Close to where I live tourist come in droves over the summer and their dogs paws get torched because of their “owners” stupidity. My little neighborhood buys dog booties, & makes up flyers we hand out & give to beach patrols and other law enforcement. The kids can scream, the dogs can’t.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I think dog owners should have to be barefoot when they walk their dogs on hot concrete, asphalt, etc.

My dog has more heat tolerance than I do. She’ll go out (through the dog door) and sun herself on the concrete when it’s over 100°F. I can’t walk more than a couple blocks if it’s over like 70. So it’s not really much of an issue for us. But I do carry her if the pavement is too hot.
