The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

One of the reasons racism stays so alive in America (besides actively practicing it of course) is the unwillingness of white folks to confront the fact that hey, maybe grandpa was kind of shitty when it came to black people. They were raised in the times they were raised in. They had shitty views.
Dawg we are talking about 1966, no American white working man was suddenly getting left high and dry by deindustrialization or austerity or recession The only “radical shift in the material conditions” was “you have to let black people into your school/office/shop/apartment block now”
I would point out that the 90s had the lowest youth voter turnout in history. This crystallized Reagan era Dems, as no new blood was coming in. That's why Feinstein, Pelosi, Biden, etc were around so long.
Something happened in the 70's that crystallized politics (and many other topics) into a new set of assumptions and priors. It gave rise to Reaganism and completely crushed New Deal Socialism; Dems that eventually reemerged were and still are centrists scared of their own shadows.

I was really thinking the other day that Chekov would outlive them all. Now it's down to Shatner, Takei, and the mutual hatred that has fueled them both for the last 60 years
My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.
Looking at you @patriottakes.bsky.social and your endless promotion of Brenden Herrerra. Yeah, we know he's a piece of shit. That's why other pieces of shit are voting for him. I don't need to know every shitty thing he's said.
As a kid with a high level of general anxiety I used to literally lie awakening bed scared that when I was an adult acid rain and the ozone layer's depletion would make it impossible to go outside.
There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere* Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines As a species we decided, “we will survive” Let’s do that some more
Neelix so I can beat him to death while my family watches
Spooky season Star Trek question 🎃🖖 You have to spend Halloween with ONE Trek character. Who are you choosing? Costumes, candy and questionable decisions are encouraged. I mainly want to know which character would become alarmingly committed to winning the costume contest.
My first movie was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The 1987 re-release...I'm not THAT old.
First film you saw at the cinema. The real first one, not the pretend one you tell people! Mine: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980, Wigan. We were near the front and I can still remember how massive the AT-ATs looked, looming over us out of the snow :) Film, year, where, and whatever stuck with you.
