👏 We did it! Today the Government have published their long overdue draft Bill to ban conversion practices. For far too long, LGBTQ+ people have been subject to practices that seek to change or suppress who they are. Conversion practices have caused profound and lasting harm to many LGBTQ+ people.

While this is a moment to be celebrated, this is the beginning of a process not the end. Over the coming weeks and months, we will carefully review the legislation to ensure it is robust, effective, and puts an end to conversion practices once and for all.

I don't think I would every have thought that one day I would hate you. But I do, this is not the beginning it is just nothing. Its an instruction manual for doctors who want to get away with conversion therapy.

Was there too many twists and sleekit turn in this ban then? The #Spanish Ban on all #ConversionPractices bsky.app/profile/helr... The Alt Text contains the complex English translation [ 🤣 ]

I'll flick through it later but I suspect it's full of holes you could drive a bus through... I much prefer the Spanish version from 2023, it's banned,no if's, no buts. Translation in alt text

They could've just...banned conversion therapy. Without writing out explicitly how to get around the ban. Conversion therapy should be banned full stop, not exceptions, no allowances for "medical professionals", no bs.

I hope everyone remembers your part in this wonderful success. Let no trans person ever forget your well-deserved pleasure in this.

It’s deeply embarrassing to see you embracing this draft so eagerly, when it’s functionally useless and could even be weaponised against legitimate gender affirming care by some readings. It’s not a ban on conversion therapy, it’s a guidebook on how to do it legally.

Self-id, informed consent access to timely quality trans healthcare, and a complete conversion therapy ban takes abusers out of the loop. It's the only way forward. Unless this bill puts the NHS in jail for its abusive gatekeeping and unwarranted waiting lists it's not a ban it's a permission slip.

If you seriously believe this is to be celebrated given that it explicitly says conversion therapy is okay if it's done in a health care service, I can only assume that the 'Intelligence' in your name is meant ironically.

bsky.app/profile/lyra... The ban doesn't protect trans people sadly, 😔 it gives big outs to anyone claiming to be a healthcare provider

We need a solid outline here for what counts as "far below" the standard of care, as I understand it the NHS would be marking their own homework on this and setting the standard to apply to all areas. If that then this seems far more likely to ban affirming care than endless speech therapy abuse

Sorry, but as others have said, far from being a ban, it is a conversion therapy enabling Bill. And there is no way those responsible will allow it to be amended away from being anything other than that.

If I set up tomorrow as a 'healthcare provider' whose sole service is abusing children into being straight, this legislation would not only fail to prevent me from doing so, it would bless me with the legitimacy of legality. Celebrating this is a *wild* misstep, which will not be easy to reverse.

You need to relook at this bill cus it does not ban change version therapy its gives them license to say we’re healthcare so we can do conversion therapy its allows for the abuse to continue especially for the trans youth community. Please delete your take on this and try again.

Very disappointed to see you celebrating the publication of this draft that will do nothing to prevent abuse of our community and actually encourages and legalises it. Try again with your comms.

Seriously. Are you really saying this is a ban? And something to celebrate?? This is a licence for conversion practices against trans+ people in particular. Explain how 1.3 (a) and (b) and 1.9 (a) and (b) aren't a licence to perform conversion practices with no recourse for the victim?
