Why are we striking? Our owners says the sale is “necessary”. But the Observer is a successful part of the Guardian family The deal has been done in secret and without considering other bids Our owners have a £1.3bn fund & a duty to protect liberal journalism - why not invest?

We'll be posting here all day and will be on the picket line at Guardian HQ - 90 York Way, London N1 Please share our messages and join us if you can. We hope some of the famous names supporting us (below) might be there too 🙏 More info: nuj.org.uk/savetheobserver Solidarity 💪

Agree with you. The Scott Trust have been good stewards for The Observer. They should accept fortune has given another journalistic great to The Guardian. Don’t sell. The world needs good quality, as independent as can be from single owner/ family/ corporation control, journalism.

You all have my full support. And the support of many. Thank you. What you are doing is hugely important. Anyone filming there so we can watch the strike live online somewhere?

I used to buy the Observer every week since 1980’s but got fed up of it being the voice of Right wing Labour+reading Watson’s weekly story to undermine his own party. Now buy it occasionally - it hasn’t changed. Doesn’t give Palestinians a fair voice.Support your right to strike but reboot needed.

Very much hope that your transphobic rag gets broken down into its constituent atoms and sold piece by piece, and that the hateful anti-trans "journalists" you employ find real, meaningful fulfilment in a job where they can shut the fuck up forever

Hello. Have been a Guardian/Observer reader for more than 40 years & fully support the action. I am a subscriber to both digital & hardcopy, opposed to the sale. The journalists are beat placed to improve content/circulation & should be consulted rather than offered redundancy.

The Guardian is just one of the laces on the stampy boot oppressing us all. The only difference with the Daily Mail is that the Guardian/Observer is dishonest about its contempt for the masses. And so, your thread unravels...

Sorry, not going to support journalists who have spent the last decade and a half fanning the flames of transphobia and sabotaging the one chance the UK had of getting a decent leftwing government.

Yeah, I'm busy blocking. Certain parties aggressively pushing gender issues bring out the worst in me, and I'd rather not see them, and so retain my civility.
