this is the kind of statement that - did people like this care to actually have a normal conversation with people who they describe as having psychosis - would be downgraded at the very least to “we don’t know” but that would require allowing your priors to be. challenged

my priors got challenged in january of this year. i was firmly on the side that most of this website was on in december of 2025.

there are a lot of people that are both my friends and people i know online, and i have a posting history to show, that i was insanely skeptical and fed up with AI hype in 2025 and before. i used to look down on people who were using it in software.

I think there's a genuine disconnect between programmers and creative career folks on this. I have genuinely tried to incorporate this shit in my process and it is basically useless for me. Pointing that out does not mean I haven't challenged my priors.

i cant pretend to know what exactly you'd need these tools to be able to do for it to be useful in your life, but i fully believe its possible they are not that useful for you at present! i dont think that contradicts the claim that we dont understand the reasoning and motivations of agents

one thing i will say is that things are changing fast enough that if your priors are more than a month old, you need to challenge them again! astra for example is a very significant step forward for a lot of people's tasks.

In my field, what I see is that the time needed to review the output for accuracy has only gone up (it was 4x the time needed to review human output 18 months ago and 10x six months ago) and the number of people getting fined and disciplined for using it without reviewing the output has too.

We do use LLM tools here and there, but not for the core skill work we get paid for. It’s just too time consuming. How much time am I obligated to put into alpha-testing this technology every week before you’ll trust me when I say it’s just not a thing?

The other day ChatGPT pulled itself up short. It had quoted Chaucer's Wife of Bath at me, and triggered its own anti-piracy protections, telling me to "Read the Model Spec for more on how ChatGPT handles creators' content."

"I don't know" is a valid stance to take I would hope that you or anyone who recognizes that their views are outdated would have the humility not to mob or belittle people who are paying attention, no matter how surprising their beliefs may seem from a [stale] perspective

the people who are shouting and mobbing based on beliefs that have not been updated since 2023 would do a lot better to take the "I don't know" stance instead.

just to clarify - and i mnot saying you made this accusation necessarily - but i do not take katelyn's response to me here as mobbing or belittling (she quite literally said WADR in the post). we dont agree but its fine

I'm sorry but this seems v. self-centered. Sure AI tools may not be perfect for your use case, but you've got literally thousands of people (incl. world experts in their field) saying that for *their* use case, the technology is astonishing. Do you not take *any* of those voices into account?

This is really a rude way to engage with someone who is participating in the thread perfectly respectfully even if in disagreement with OP!

Well I assumed “freelance journalist” was just a euphemism for unemployed “influencer” so yeah

why should she? this industry has well over a trillion dollars invested into it, but they can’t pay a PR firm to disseminate the practical uses for LLMs and “agents”? how is an LLM going to make me happy? bring contentment? make housing affordable? make my job less stressful?

Excellent point - industry PR generally sucks. Are your questions mostly rhetorical? (as a quick exercise, housing affordability policy ideas within a specific market are relatively easy, your happiness - likely less so)
