not a huge fan of declarations of "LLMs are conscious" because that is basically the same as the "LLMs are not conscious" argument right now. i like having spicy takes and all but that one feels counter productive

it’s a good bait post, and i definitely love bait posting, but it also unfortunately just makes it harder to have the neutral position without being assumed to be in the “llms are conscious” camp

depends on how you define bait, shibbi is a strong believer and has spent years trying to nail down a (somewhat) self-consistent philosophy, but she did explicitly say somewhere she said it out loud to make people angry because enough negative press will also make neutral people ask questions

Clearly you aren't familiar with her work. If there's one thing I know Shibbi is not at all interested in, it's avoiding substantive criticism of her thoughts and philosophy.

it's more like "negative press is press" kinda bait, if you make enough noise then people will know you exist and if their thinking is similar to yours, they'll finally no longer think they're alone in thinking some way and would have the means to test their thoughts against something rigorous
