nobuo uematsu is possibly the most famous and well acclaimed video game composer of all time. indisputably he's in the top 3. and i'm gonnna say it: he's probably still underrated

sorry to roast you but this is hilariously rpg pilled. koji kondo, jeremy soule (unfortunately), grant kirkhope, yuzo koshiro, jun senoue (tho i think crush 40 the more recognisable name) are all there too. koji kondo and uematsu i think are basically agreed upon as the most famous 2

Grateful to him for giving me a sweet tooth for really noodly prog rock as a kid. I went looking for more after playing VI-IX and didn't find it in another video game, I found it in ELP and Jethro Tull

That first big note on the midgar wide shot: "damn nothing hits like that" 10 seconds later when the train pulls up with bombing mission: "damn man nothing hits like that either"

I'm never sure if it's pure nostalgia talking, or even working around limited sound chips, but his focus on melodies makes his stuff stand out against modern soundtracks. So many games have big orchestral songs, great, but they blur together. Soundtracks of that generation felt unique

Unironically I think he is probably one of the greatest modern composers, but I don't usually voice that opinion cause I don't know shit about composition and I'm running on vibes

even after over a decade of content, the FFXIV ARR main theme (answers) is still one of the most powerful songs in the entire soundtrack and hearing dragonsong in heavensward was probably the moment i truly fell in love with that game
