feel kind of :/ about the wolverine game being singled out as a victim of online negativity because people think it looks a bit shit. the dynamics are real but to suddenly care about them now that people aren’t excited for the new 200 million dollar marvel game is like. ok cmon

People aren't excited about it in a way I think is really good? Like between it and that new gamefreak game, it feels we're in a renaissance of 3/5 games (positive-ish) from massive developers.

Massive developers putting out mid used to be a sign of a healthy workflow and industry. Now they're all concentrated 9-figure megaprojects that take a generation to make, and developers are risking getting shut down completely every time they make one.

Seen multiple people talking about it allegedly being targeted by ‘chuds’ and even if that is true, surely we can understand that a manly, bloody action game can survive that kind of attack better than say a queer or female led indie game? Let’s prioritise a little better.

Yea like, the chuds screaming "WOKEEEE" at it are idiots but also.. it looks boring? And I'm sorry but holy shit melee focused games do NOT benefit from the claustrophobic over the shoulder camera. Genuinely hated it in the God of war reboots and still hate it I just wanna see wtf is around me

feel like a much better example of this exact thing is how every indie game dev if they get a viral clip just has to get one million quotes now calling it slop based on the least charitable interpretation of 30 seconds of gameplay

I still remember when Hollow Knight was first shown off and people were calling it slop just because it was 2D, there were platforms, and the controls were tight.

this literally happened to my game, 30 seconds of higher skill gameplay was posted to a few indie game subreddits to gather interest for the kickstarter and a fuckin Huge indie game focused account on twitter reposted that footage. --

Yeah, this is the real epidemic. People pass up so many 10/10s cuz they can't get past the fact that they hate the image of the game they created in their head, and then complain that people don't make good games in X genre anymore.

I mean the most recent game I've seen dragged into that discourse was Tricky and the Dream Caster. I was seeing people complain that "every indie platformer has to play like Mario Odyssey" and then I look over at games like Kilaflow and Lunistice and wonder where they're getting their data from.

Yeah like I'm meh on it, might play eventually, but like it'll be fine. It's goddamn wolverine and it's bloody as hell and it's one of them billion dollar good looking tentpole games. It will survive. (so I mean they might as well just add a trans wolverine option, a Femverine, if you will)

The long and short of it is 15 years ago this wouldn't be the only thing the dev makes in the span of 3 years. People would much more reasonably be able to say "This isn't for me" and move on if it wasn't one of 3 games to come out of Sony for the entire year.

People are still waiting on a followup to Ratchet Rift Apart. We used to get like 4 entries per generation on PS2/3, so forgive me if I'm a little bitter towards Insomniac being stuck in the Marvel mines.

See that's my main worry at this point, that PlayStation is taking so long between when they make good games that I won't even be able to buy it physically anymore.
