Claiming to be apolitical while discussing gamergate *of all things* is just admitting to being utterly clueless, or—more likely—a flat-out lie.

You're the one starting an argument here. And even that caveat does little to improve things. GG was an inherently and deeply political event. It would be like trying to make a nuanced and apolitical video about 9/11 or the fall of the Berlin wall – again: clueless or dishonest.

It's just doing Chris Ray Gun's GG bit of gaslighting people about the harassment being a smokescreen to ignore that the harassers actually have sound issues. The aesthetics of nuance are making him take misogynists at their word while requiring constant scrutiny to women getting harassed.

I thought the truth about gamergate was that the guys who wanted a fascist movement and were pals with Epstein stoked the fires and used the discussion as recruiting grounds for the far right, how do you make that apolitical

The Sarkeesian section where he keeps giving lip service to harassment of her being bad while constructing a framework justifying how she was treated and creating a roadmap for how you might build a conspiracy theory about her behavior was really rich

And even this description seems somewhat overly generous when the original instigating event was, as far as anyone was ever able to prove, completely made up.

I love when I get recommendations like that, because it's a perfect opportunity to permanently remove the channel from my future recommendations. Most garbage videos are much less obvious.

i have enjoyed some of his videos before but 'gamergate had some valid points underneath it all' is where i draw the line. i was there. it was post-hoc from day one. this is weaponising the appearance of nuance to legitimise a hate campaign. no idea why he'd do this but i find it awful

Basically all of his videos on gaming culture end up with the same conclusion of "yeah, sure, the outrage was hijacked by grifters and nazis, but the people had valid reasons for it to start, and don't let yourself be told otherwise". Whether that is true or not... depends on the situation.

not surprised since he already conveyed that view more or less in his gamergate 2 video, which is actually somewhat interesting in the sense that even a guy who thought round 1 was good called out the bullshit on round 2

I binged a bunch of his older vids and I thought they were quite good (but i only played a few of the games mentioned, so what do i know). Then i saw that video and i don't know much about gamergate so I thought why not I got a bunch of random stuff to do,made it to 2 hours and I regret all of it.
