The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality. And trans lives are grounded in reality. We see y'all. No matter what. www.popsci.com/science/tran...

popsci.comFirst-of-a-kind study shows encouraging data for trans kids who socially transitionNinety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

While I completely support trans kids I don't think they should take meds for it till like their mid teens and surgery till they are adults. If you can't trust someone to drive or stay home alone they shouldn't with life altering decisions. Allow them to figure themselves out more first.

That's the purpose of puberty blockers -- they just delay irreversible development until the kid is older and can fully decide what they want

Nope -- this use is endorsed by major medical organizations, pretty well studied, and really just works as it says on the tin

Furthermore, these medications have an established history of safe use in cisgender kids, where they've long been used to treat a number of puberty disorders. And they're not even fighting to take these away from cis kids, only block trans kids from having access to the same medicines.

If all they are doing is prescribing puberty blockers then what are peoples problems? All I hear is how people push their kids to transition and shit. I mean... I am sure that happens some people are messed up but generally if they don't do anything till they are older I don't see the issue.

A big part of the arguments against gender affirming care is highlighting the ways that literally everything, especially in medicine, has risk and side effects associated with it, and pretending that only applies to stuff trans people want.

Plus according to some surveys, kids who take puberty blockers for gender incongruence are likely to transition as young adults - while the normal read here is that the prescriptions are helping the patients, the transphobia argument is "they don't buy kids time because they transition anyway".

This is the point of all the flash and show, they need you to be afraid and not ask questions because when you do you learn the truth and that disarms their lies making them powerless. They try to aim for a moral argument not based on facts but on feelings BECAUSE the facts don't back them up.

It's a manufactured moral panic with no basis in truth but millions of dollars behind it. Much like the anti-gay campaigns of the 70's and 80's (using a lot of the same playbook, even).
