in the interest of annoying everyone, can I say that Lime bike riders madly running red lights are bad *but so are pedestrians with headphones wandering out into the road*

I've become fully Parisian over this. The amount of "Mais madame, vous faites quoi ?!" tutting I do at both fellow cyclists running red lights AND distracted pedestrians launching themselves at bike lanes is frankly boomerish, but it has to be done.

Yeah, but the crux is that other pedestrians don't then come out to blame "infrastructure", the vehicle that has to take action to avoid them, road traffic legislation, and just about anything else except the perpetrator. And no, not all cyclists do that, but there's been plenty of examples that do.

Not defending people wandering into the street whenever they like - but if there’s a green man, headphones or no, you should be able to cross. If that’s not possible, it means deaf and blind people are effectively unable to safely cross the road. Which is basically how it appears to me in London.

💯 My partially sighted friend is more concerned about bikes (on pavements and running red lights at crossings) than any other type of traffic. Particularly as she inevitably gets a foul mouthful of abuse if she politely challenges them.
