Great read! I'm honestly wondering if my PS5 might end up being the last console I ever buy, and it makes me sad to see this hobby that I've loved since I first played a video game seemingly become out of reach.

I think that the real threat could be mobile gaming. Imagine consoles costing £1000+ or paying to play mobile games for a lot less. If you're a AAA gaming company that can't make projects break even, this could be a great market to crack

maybe venture capital would allow games and companies to grow audiences instead of shooting for the moon out the gate and laying off the developers or shuttering the studios when that doesn't happen in the unrealistic time frame of 2 months.

Some amount of advertising on that piece. I could barely follow the thread of what was being said for scrolling between acres of ads every couple of paragraphs. I get that it costs to keep a website up, but good site design that does not break flow would be nice.

Also, I haven't bought a brand new console in 20 years.
