My dachshund was on a rock next to the James River in Richmond va, looking for fish. A river otter swam under water to just below her. She watched weird fish closely. Moved slightly forward & back, I held leash tight. The otter popped it's head out of the water in front of her. She yiped & ran!

They're not known for their gentle playfulness playfulness. I suspect these a well used to human contact and behave accordingly. At the sanctuary in Devon we were warned strongly not to get near them, for human protection.

Yes certain large otter species like the Giant Otter and Sea Otters are considered apex predators in their specific aquatic environments. While smaller river otters face threats from land predators. Pretty sure the otter in the video is a river otter.

Yeah you've got that wrong. They predate on wildfowl and fish alike that's why so many fisheries in the UK are now fenced off with otter fences. My local lake has seen a 90% reduction in coots and moorhens because of otter predation. Ignoring these facts is not helpful.

This is selfish and sickening. Wild animals are not meant to be pets. When full grown this otter will likely be surrendered (because they will be unmanageable) and doomed to a life in captivity or put down

Anyone wanting to learn more about caring for otters should read Ring of Bright Water by Gavin Maxwell. It shows that looking after them is far from as easy as it might seem, and that good intentions can sometimes have heartbreaking consequences. A fascinating and highly recommended read.

It would be nice if the content creator would answer some of these questions about why this beautiful wild baby is living in her apartment. But, obviously all she cares about is social media engagement. I hope animal control takes it away from her and places it with others of its kind.
