If Nina Totenberg accidentally published her pre-write before she was supposed to and blew Alito's retirement announcement, I am going to die laughing at my desk

So according to the folks on the scene in SCOTUSBlog's chat, "The PIO just checking with Nina in the broadcast booth and Nina says this is a mistake and they are taking it down."

Journalist here. In most newsrooms she wouldn’t be the one clicking publish herself. Especially given that she was at the court when it went live, this was probably a copy desk error or something pre-scheduled by a format editor. she’s likely not the one clicking publish in the CMS from her phone.

Agreed. At large news organizations, reporters never - repeat never - push the "Publish" button. Editors do that. Somebody jumped the gun on the Alito retirement story, but it wasn't Nina Totenberg.

Good time for a reminder that McConnell held off Obama's Supreme Court nominee for 286 days. “All we are doing is following the long-standing tradition of not fulfilling a nomination in the middle of a presidential year.” Let that tradition continue until 2029. Tradition has no meaning.

I’d bet it’s coming soon but Alito may be waiting to pull the trigger until Trump decides on the replacement and gets the Senate in line to push it through. It’ll be another Amy Coney Barrett job. Just hoping it’s not Aileen Cannon or Emil Bove, because they’re both so horrible.
