If Nina Totenberg accidentally published her pre-write before she was supposed to and blew Alito's retirement announcement, I am going to die laughing at my desk

So according to the folks on the scene in SCOTUSBlog's chat, "The PIO just checking with Nina in the broadcast booth and Nina says this is a mistake and they are taking it down."

Possibly, but for Totenberg’s reporting on Ginsberg’s smoking pot during law school, Kennedy wouldn’t have been on the Supreme Court to be the fifth vote in Bush v Gore. And Gorsuch & Kavanaugh were two of Kennedy’s clerks. And it must be remembered Ginsberg was Reagan’s pick after Bork was rejected

40 years of honing her craft* only to fuck up now. *assiduously kowtowing to the justices at cocktail parties so that they tell her things she can write down.

No just until he dies which hopefully is post trump and is replaced by a reasonable facsimile of a justice. Far better than him retiring today and being replaced by a clone 30 years younger.

Now that they've retracted it, NPR can write a real retirement announcement calling out Alito for his decades of working to make this country a worse place for everybody who does not look and think like him.

Nina Scrotenberg should have had looser lips when she was helping her bestie RBG conceal the severity of her health problems and thus fucking dying in the saddle thereby handing Trump a GIGANTIC fucking court tipping W. NPR is a joke. Put TMZ on the SCOTUS beat at least we’d get some truth!!!!

A real shitty thing that we have to consider now is the possibility of making huge sums on Polymarket. Alito retirement prices were at 15 cents this morning; a brief spike to north of 50 cents could triple somebody's money.

I’ve been listening to NPR to hear the rulings this morning and that was announced right after they were finished. Alito’s retiring first is expected so I wasn’t surprised to hear it, but this is HILARIOUS! Omg Nina!

Nina was at the Court. SCOTUSblog confirmed she didn't know and that it was a mistake. Someone at NPR pushed the wrong button (or it was set to auto-publish, maybe?).

Nina Totenberg should have retired after ProPublica broke the story on Harlan Crow after she'd been covering SCOTUS for three decades and had never said shit about the corruption imo.

I love it. Reminds me of the LBJ/Ben Bradley story about the “retirement” of J Edgar Hoover, which Bradlee broke prematurely. LBJ declared him FBI Director for life instead and remarked that Ben Bradlee could go fuck himself.

Even funnier now. bsky.app/profile/bgru...

NPR just updated its language on the Alito correction. The original stated that the Totenberg piece “was published in error,” which is what newsrooms often say when a story is true but was published prematurely. Now it says Alito “has not announced his retirement.”

Journalist here. In most newsrooms she wouldn’t be the one clicking publish herself. Especially given that she was at the court when it went live, this was probably a copy desk error or something pre-scheduled by a format editor. she’s likely not the one clicking publish in the CMS from her phone.

Good time for a reminder that McConnell held off Obama's Supreme Court nominee for 286 days. “All we are doing is following the long-standing tradition of not fulfilling a nomination in the middle of a presidential year.” Let that tradition continue until 2029. Tradition has no meaning.

I’d bet it’s coming soon but Alito may be waiting to pull the trigger until Trump decides on the replacement and gets the Senate in line to push it through. It’ll be another Amy Coney Barrett job. Just hoping it’s not Aileen Cannon or Emil Bove, because they’re both so horrible.

I am sure he us going to retire before the midterms so Trump can appoint another right-wing white supremacist hack to the court. In the end his seat is irrelevant, if Dems win the mid-terms with the votes needed they need to reform and stack the court anyway.

Ah, what the hell. Maybe the Alito retirement rumor will get more Dems out to VOTE us both the House & Senate to keep Orange Caligula from appointing another extremist right wing, corrupt horse's ass to the Supreme Court. And they better NOT be afraid to McConnell ANY trump SCOTUS appointee.
